The two diagonal lines of posts produce a satisfying composition, along with the boats. The white object in the middle of the lower line is quite dominant and acts as a focal point in the image. Without it the eye would wander around without anywhere to settle. The lighting on the posts really makes them stand out. |

An excellent shot Ian. You have to be quick on the draw to catch this moment as those things accelerate very quickly indeed in a vertical dive. All in focus and well framed. |

Isaac, I've seen the Red Arrows on several occasions and this is a shot looking almost directly upwards as they dive vertically off the top of a loop. You are looking up into the centre of the 'bomb burst' so you are seeing the undersides of all the aircraft as they pull away from the dive and end up all flying in different directions. |

I almost want to see a witch on a broomstick in front of teh full moon! Great shot Erik. Your skill with a long lens, hand-held never fails to amaze me! |

Bill, I enjoyed your previous image but I think this one is even better. The smoke and steam are excellent and really show the power being developed by this locomotive. The two red cabooses stop my eye from going down the train and out of the picture, and the presence of the red pickup pulls me back in again. I agree with Tom that it would be a good idea to change the colour of that red truck in the background from red to grey. Would it be possible to add say 5% on to the canvas at the top and complete the smoke and steam cloud by cloning in some of the existing cloud? |

A pleasant, restful image Joe. The old stonework of the bridge and fortifications sets the scene, with the curve of the river in the midground, and the dog walker on the dry gravel bed in the foreground coming together to make a pleasant composition. The day was clearly overcast so the lighting soft and without shadows, suiting the composition. I am not too happy, though, with the tree on the left hand side. Its colour makes it quite dominant and it may be that the composition would be better if it were cropped out. |

Hi Erik. Your version certainly has more brightness and saturation but has changed the scene from the typical pastel shades of a northern English winter to a more vibrant image worthy of an exhibition. Interestingly, your adjustment has just started to reveal the faint outline of the background hills, which I have tried to pick out with a grey line on the attached image. Most of the background is not sky but is backlit mist and haze hiding the hills which are invisible in my image. |

I like the composition with the tower in the far left, although maybe I would take a little off the right hand side because the converging verticals make the distant shore appear to curve upwards at the right. The clouds over the tower are superb and my immediate thought was that it was due to a long exposure - how wrong can you be! Perhaps the effect was caused by strong winds at high altitude. |

Balance on one foot... Not so easy now but I still try! That trip to the Palouse was really good. I still use one of the tips that Chip showed us in Photoshop - try Unsharp Mask with a very high Radius and small Amount to give a bit of 'pop' to the image. It only works on a few images but on the right image it can make a big difference. Now that I've found you on Group 77, I'll be back! |

Hi Witta, remember me? Paula and I stayed with you for a few days some years ago. Lovely shot with just enough detail held in the background to set the scene. Colours are superb. |

Great shot, Jerry. The boats stand out well and there is lovely hazy recession in the background hills. There is a great aura of peace and tranquility. |

Dan, this is excellent. I love the minimilistic approach with big areas of white. The fence line takes you into the image up to the trees and then you move to the left along to the barn. I also go along with your philosophy that an image should speak for itself. |
