Hi Thomas. That is a very interesting change to the composition and I think it works very well. |

Ian, one of the nice things about this group is that we are all happy to have other members play with their images to give their own interpretations. I'm quite happy for you to do this and I like your version. I'm very pleased that you like my offering. |

I can't remember whether or not I noticed the problem with the middle light at the time, but I think it would be difficult to find a position where all three lights were well placed. I seem to remember moving around quite a bit to find this composition. As for Photoshop, I thought about it and decided not to bother. |

Ian, it's a very good pose and the wings do a great job in framing the subject. I think the black skirt is looking a bit too dark and losing the detail (maybe something to do with the web presentation). I took it into photoshop and applied the Shadows/Highlights adjustment at Shad 25, Hlts 0, and it brought out just enough detail in the skirt to look interesting without being distracting. |

It's a very attractive old church to photograph and you have presented it well. THe HDR tratment has produced a full range of tones withgood shadow detail and no burnt out highlights. I agree with Beverly about the wire, but I'm not too bothered by the leaning pole at the top of the tower. |

A great action shot which has just caught the best moment perfectly as the water splashes out of the plastic cup. It is very chaotic but you have focussed our attention on the runner by careful use of the vignette. |

Well there you go! I ask a question and the answer is a more complicated question....! Decisions, decisions, decisions! |

An alien monster indeed! My first impression when looking at the thumbnail was of a close-up of an insect. It's a nice piece of work and I wholeheartedly agree that we should play with images occasionally, just to have some fun. Sometimes (as here) you get a very good result. This one tempts you in with a first impression and then you start to look more closely and appreciate what it actually is. I like it! |

It's often fun stepping back and looking at other people at art exhibitions. You have caught a good 'pose' by this lady who is clearly determined to get an artistic image of this modern sculpture. I think the mesh thing in the top left is distracting and it's a pity you have cropped her dress slightly at the right. I have cropped the left and cloned out the remainder of the mesh thing, and then added some space to the right and cloned in a bit of the dress to round it off. |

I think this image works well. The orange coloured wall and stonework frame the barred opening well and we have a hint of the courtyard beyond. The dogs are well placed and I like the fact that the symmetry is broken by the one dog on the right, with a different pose and upright ears. I could imagine this image also being taken in Italy, south of France, Spain or Cuba. |

Should I take out those unconnected lines and leave a blank black space in the top right? It would depart from reality but would that matter? |

Terri, I live in the UK and do some club judging so I recognise what Mike says. However, my view is that you only fall back on 'rules' when you feel a picture is not as good as it might be and you want to find something 'useful' to say. If a picture grabs you straight away then 'rules' go out of the window! This one grabbed me. |
