Bill & Isaac, I copied the image into Photoshop and looked at the channel info. The image is not a pure back & white anymore as there is a slight variation in the channel data. I put a B/W adjustment layer on it and you can see the difference. |

Brown make the picture different and elevates it from being a pretty image to one that makes you stop and think. |

David, the reflections were there so I left them in. I thought they added interest. From the camera position in relation to the lamp and the reflections it is fairly clear that both reflections must be from another lamp or lamps. Perhaps that is why they seem out of place. |

Ian, I think you are one of the masters of portraiture. This is an excellent image which does have a sinister feel. Although you say that Graham set up the lighting, it was up to you to pose him so as to take advantage of it, and you certainly did that.
Best of luck with sorting everything out after the move. |

Brilliant timing Erik. You've caught exactly the right moment with both the bull and the rider airborne. Focus is spot on and the shutter speed fast enough to freeze the action. Isaac has suggested a very neat crop. |

David, thanks for your comments about your new job. I have been retired now for some time but I am familiar with the trend to push more amd more work on to fewer and fewer people. You will probably feel that you are still struggling to learn the new job for a while, and then one day you will realise that you actually understand more than you thought. Anyway, best of luck with it.
Regarding the image, I half agree with Joe in that the brown rose doesn't look natural to me but the red rose does. That creates a bit more interest and makes me look at the image longer. In my opinion, any image which holds your attention and then makes you go back for a second look is successful. The black background has worked well in eliminating all distractions and the lighting is good too. |

It's a very creative image and certainly one that is suitable for a greetings card. The focus stacking has been very successful and your work in Topaz has resulted in a very good image. I have yet to try focus stacking and I have no experience with Topaz AI so maybe I need to take a look. |

I think this illustrates the fact that everyone is different, and that what appeals to some is diliked by others. As the French would say, "Vive la difference!" |

I'm not sure where to start! I don't like the red bar down the side of the frame in the first image as it disracts too much. The motor bike in the second image seems incongruous but actually emphasises the poverty of the man in the chair. It seems to highlight the difference between the affluence of modern civilisation and the poverty of a large proportion of the world. The third image is very much a Travel image although the pig has motion blur. The fourth image is a very nice composite. |

A superb action shot, Isaac. The subjects are pin sharp and well separated from the background by the use of good differentioal focus. The mono traetment has eliminated any possible distaction from colour. |

Hi Erik. Thanks for the comments. As for 10 Downing Street, I'd have to get past lots of armed police even to get into Downing Street, never mind getting to number 10. The security there is very tight, and anyway, photographically it's no more interesting than lots of others in London and elswhere. |
