Hi David and Erik
The 'noise' you mention may just be the ripples in the sand. The full size image looks fine, so it may be the resampling and the additional sharpening which Photoshop applies. I must admit that I didn't look hard at the resampled image - was in a bit of a rush to get something done! |

If that's a selfie, I wouldn't like to meet you on a dark, deserted street! Seriously, this is very well done. I am no good at photographing people as I am not good at posing them so I admire your ability to do this. The eyes are startlingly effective. A brilliant shot, but not one I'd put on my bedroom wall!
Sorry Paula and I were not able to see you at Hoylake on 2nd March. We were really looking forward to it, but the weather on our side was treacherous. |

Erik, what a coincidence that both you and Bill should put in pictures of the same subject. For me this is a very restful image with gentle colours and a smooth waterfall. This is the sort of soothing image I could see in a hotel bedroom or on the walls of a hospital. The composition is very good taking the viewer through the image from the waterfall to the mill via the delicate trees and the red/brown water-wheel. |

I admire anyone who can think up this sort of table top photography. I like the composition and I think the slant does really give it a more dynamic feel. It's a pity you were not able to include the end of the tray reflection (RH edge). I didn't notice the background until it was mentioned, then I tried the Shadows/Highlights adjustment in Photoshop and it really does show up the chair. It's quite surprising just how much detail can be held in what at first sight looks like plain black. Just one suggestion. Make a well feathered freehand selection of the area covering the shiny highlights in Photoshop and use Curves to increase contrast and brighten them up (in Luminosity mode to preserve colours) and it really makes the image pop. |

I feel that I know this mill quite well even though I have never been there! It has certainly been much photographed. The fall colours here are quite magnificent and the reflections in the water are just right. Composition is good with the eye moving smoothly through the image from foreground to background and then back via all those lovely colours in the trees. Thanks for the explanation Bill. |

A well executed illustration of a total lunar eclipse, Isaac. I agree with the others that the composition has been very nicely constructed. The technical quality is excellent too, but then we have come to expect nothing less from you. |

Joe, that was some very good work in correcting the perspective. The only giveaway here is the slight distortion on the two spherical decorations at the left and right of the building at the very top. But if you hadn't shown us the original, I would never have noticed. It's a great record of this crumbling building and as Ian says, we should record these things for posterity. |

Well spotted Isaac! It's a sea bird - a gull I think. I wondered whether or not to take it out, but as it shows up better in a 14 inch wide print I decided to leave it in and not say anything. I'm still in two minds as to whether or not to remove it. |

Hi Joe. I guess it depends on what you are aiming for. I was trying to produce something soft and gentle, so I pulled the Clarity down in the RAW converter to subdue the detail. My usual style is to push up the colours and the contrast, but here I was trying to do something a bit different. I might have a look at your suggestion though. |
