Group Round C/R Comment Date Image
3 Apr 24 Comment Hi Andres,
Welcome to group 3! We are so glad that you are here!
For this image, you have captured a nice appearance of Mont Saint-Mitchel on the island. There are many castles in fairy-tales and kids' movies inspired by this monument and they replicated it.
I like the composition of this image. I'd prefer to boost the color a bit to make it more appealing. Thanks for sharing!

I love to stroll along the beach at sunrise, and cell phone is really handy for me. I don't need to carry heavy equipment and tripod, and especially I don't have to whisk salt water and sand off the DSLR camera and lens body after that.
I also think that pictures are judged based on the light, composition, and impact of the scene, and not based on what kinds of cameras were used. Do you agree?

For the shell, I bought it at the store on the pier the evening before, and decided to set up at sunrise next morning for photo shoots 😀. I had other images with the shell closer to the water but personally, I like this shot more when the water recedes from the shore to leave only the clean sands and the shell.

3 Apr 24 Comment Hi Joan,
It's a great shot of the Multnomah Falls! The composition works very well with the vertical shot that shows the entire beauty and power of the scene. The bridge with people in it gives the viewers a sense of scale. It also emphasizes the two different sections of the waterfalls.
What interests me is that with the speed 1/50, the waterfalls in the top part look silky smoother than the lower section. I am curious to know whether you tried other shots of this scene with a longer exposure? Thanks for sharing your beautiful image!

3 Apr 24 Comment Hi Mary Ann,
Your image is sharp and beautiful! It's nice to have a chance to experiment with focus stacking. I tried focus stacking for macro flower shots only and I have never tried it with a large scene. I normally used HDR with a wide dynamic range and varied exposures for landscape instead. I will give a try on focus stacking for landscape photography some day.
For this image, I'd prefer to crop tighter on the left to eliminate the tree that mixed with the weeping branches since it looks a bit busy there. Thanks for sharing your nice shot and your technique! I'd want to see more of your focus stacking images.

3 Apr 24 Comment Hi Ruth,
The light, the flowers arrangement, and the vertical crop have made this image a lovely one! Your post processing is also well done that emphasizes the color and texture of the calla lilies, which look like the flames of fire to me. Thanks for sharing your beautiful image!

3 Apr 24 Comment Hi Robert,
You have captured a great image of those working bees. The image is sharp, and the finger gives a sense of scale to the size of the bees.
I like your version with 4 bees climbing on your niece's artwork the most. Her design has the blue color as of Van Gogh's painting style, and the bees seem to try pulling the moon away. It also makes me think that your image was perfectly timed for the total solar eclipse we experienced this month. Nice shot!

3 Apr 24 Comment Hi Michael,
Your image is a beautiful PJ image. It tells a story of the normal life in India very well: Starting with the barber shop, the sand bags are used as stairs to get into the shop. The space is quite small but it has a window to get the fresh air from the green trees at the back. The Picasso-style picture on the wall definitely brings a touch of creativity to this shop! All the elements of this image balance the visual storytelling and portrait unbiased scenes. I enjoy seeing the bench for waiting customers, a small separation space between shops, and the high trees to reduce the heat.
My minor suggestion is to crop a bit from the left to remove the sand bag on the floor there and straighten the shops. Thanks for sharing your great PJ image!

Hi Susan,
Your image is intriguing! It triggers me to study more than the normal image. The sign "Keep Out of Dunes" right next to the stairs is a bit confusing to me! Are the stairs made for climbing up to the beach? That route might be created to avoid people walking or playing on sand dunes which could damage sea grass and other plants that hold the dune together.
To me, the leading lines do not have to end with the subject because the concepts around them are quite a subtle matter. I think that the post is used to hold the stairs because the dunes are not stable and the steps are not safe since they are simply tied together by ropes. Although the post is a distracting element of the image, I'd prefer not to remove it because it constitutes a story telling part. Thanks for sharing your intriguing image!

86 Apr 24 Comment Hi Pat,
Your image is quite sharp, and the 3 colors blend beautifully from one color to the next. I like the angle you shot with the center in a triangle shape surrounded by wavy petals, just like the dresses of dancers. It's beautiful shot and I don't have any suggestion for improvement. Thanks for sharing your image!

86 Apr 24 Comment Hi Ruth,
I can see that you have fun setting up photo opportunities right in your backyard. You are very creative as well by using the rabbits as props and with the blue bonnets as your beautiful background. Thanks for sharing your cute image and your great idea for Easter!

86 Apr 24 Reply Thanks, Susan! I think that without the leading lines and the reflection, the restaurant tables will become a mere record shot. Apr 15th
86 Apr 24 Reply Thanks, Steven! I forgot that most restaurants in Spain won't even open before 8:00 pm, except Las Ramblas area. Lucky me! Apr 15th
86 Apr 24 Reply Thanks for your comments, Jack! I was quite lucky to find some moments that Las Ramblas was not crowded. Apr 15th
86 Apr 24 Comment Hi Wayne,
The baby's eyes show her perceptual impressions well. The catchlights in her eyes make them more appealing. However, I found that there are triple catchlights in each of her eyes which are quite "too many" for portrait. It's hard to avoid them when she is not in the studio. I'd suggest to use post processing to correct them. Thanks for sharing your image!

86 Apr 24 Comment Hi Jack,
The composition is beautiful with the straight line in the center of the image and it divides 2 different scenes on both sides. The fog gives more feeling to the scene, and the morning cloudy sky is a big plus to that.
I'd suggest to lighten the sky color a bit since it seems too vivid compared to the foggy scene. I'd also prefer to remove the part of the tree on the top right that does not contribute much to the image. Thanks for sharing your nice image captured from your front porch!

86 Apr 24 Comment Hi Steven,
Your image is sharp and the conversion to B&W works well. The sky is beautiful and you were able to use a fast speed to freeze the actions of the players. It seems to me that there is a big net/screen in front of the spectators but your image is sharp that I did not notice it at first sight.
I agree with other comments that the scene needs to be straightened. Other than that, it's a great shot!
