Hi Ruth,
Thanks for your comments and your inquiries.
In this image, the umbrella owner seemed to mark his territory by the white sticks around those umbrellas interested me. The umbrellas have nice colors and prints, and they look like the pine trees displayed for sale at Christmas time.
Believe or not, I did not have a chance to see whether the umbrellas have flag designs or not (even the hotel where I stayed in was right on the beach) because we were continuously on tour from early morning to late evening. |

Hi David,
You have captured a beautiful scene of Tautuku River. The long shutter speed technique has given the silky effect to the water. I am a bit surprised when there is not much water to be seen in this scene (probably because of the word "river" in the title).
I like the way you lighten up the top left corner to show more details of the ferns. I'd prefer to reduce the desaturation of greens a bit to give the scene a more natural look. Thanks for shaing your image! |

Hi Mary Ann,
Your image helps convey the spirit of Portugal. It gives me a glimpse of what might be like to venture these narrow cobblestone streets. The green cross with a palm tree inside of the pharmaceutical sign interested me.
Your post processing has sharpened your image, and your crop to eliminate the bright sky is a good choice. I can see that the mobile phone is a convenient way to shoot while you travel, especially when you need to keep up your pace to follow the tour guide.
For a travel photography, I'd prefer to focus more on the locals, or the flocks of tourist enjoying their ways. Thanks for sharing! |

HiJoan,
Nice idea to create your own custom card for your granddaughter's birthday. She will be happy to receive it since it's truly personalized with her photo in it and it's from your heart. I also design my own cards on many occasions as well.
Since your granddaughter is in astronaut outfit, my suggestion is to tweak your design with more elements such as: clouds, moon, stars, etc… using free brushes in Photoshop. Have fun to create your own unique greeting! |

Hi Ruth,
You have captured another beautiful scene of Colorado. The peak season of fall makes Telluride so inviting. You have all elements of a beautiful lanscape photo: the mountains, the golden trees, the lake, the boat, and the water reflection. The boat can be used as a scale to figure out the immense of the scene.
I especially like that small empty boat that was drifting away from the shore (just in time of your shot) with water ripples that spread out in circles. Without movement of the boat, I think that no water ripples will be created.
The sky in the original image seems to be dull but you did a wonderful job in post processing to bring back the cloudy sky. Your image is so beautiful, and my only recommendation is to print it and hang it on the walls. Thanks for sharing a nice scene of Telluride! |

Hi Robert,
Your crop makes the image so impactful! It seems that the red cardinal is attacking your camera. He is facing your camera with sharp eyes, and his folded wings as if he is ready for a fight.
I'd prefer to darken a bit more the white spots of snow on the top of the bird's back since they could be distracting. Thanks for sharing your nice shot!Ü |

Hi Michael,
You have captured a very interesting image! I have never seen such a "bird apartment" (as Joan's description) like this. I feel amazed that your image also shows the resident population there with 4 birds at different houses and one is coming home. A sharp bird in flight is a big plus to this shot. Do you know what kind of birds they are? I am also curious to know whether the owner successfully attracted the birds he/she wanted because some bird species are terrotorial and will not allow other birds to nest too close by.
I second Ruth's comment that I'd prefer to have a separation between the hill line in the distance and the bottom of the top bird house on the left, but it's not a big deal. Overall, your image is unique and different than the norm. Thanks for sharing your nice shot! |

Hi Pat,
In Snapseed, It seems that we can only view the stack while we actually make the edits. Once we save and close the image, the stack will be merged and flattened. We cannot retrieve different layers as in Photoshop. I usually export it in different versions before closing the image.
For your image, I think that the submitted version is quite dark. The Original 2 works best for me. The composition, sharpness, light, colors, and the different layers from the foreground to background, and the water reflection make the scene beautiful. Nice shot! |

Hi Wayne,
The patterns of the waves and the positon of the birds and the treasure hunter (?) grab my attention. It's a nice composition!
I like Steven's edits that fills the arc of water and adds more lights to the scene.
In my personal opinion, I'd suggest to try a B&W conversion to add a bit of mood and impact to your photo. |

Hi Jack,
Your image brought back fond memories of my trip to Angkor Wat more than a decade ago. I agree with you that sometimes revisiting a scene helps discover better images. I appreciate the inclusion of your previous image for comparison.
The composition of your image this month is nicely done to show more details of the window columns. The shadows on the floor gives more depth to the scene. To me, the light is just right to illuminate the hall.
I am opposed to Steven's suggestion to flip the image, especially for the architecture since I feel lost in the new arrangement. Thanks for sharing your travel image! |

Hi Ruth,
Congratulations to you on having your image displayed in the Home showcase this month!
Capturing a rose in January makes me dream of the nice weather. The rose has a nice pink color, and it is slightly bends in a diagonal line makes it stands out from the wall.
I'd prefer to darken the flower petals on the top left a bit more since there are some bright spots there. |

Hi Steven,
What I learned from this is: Don't pack up once the sun is gone. When the sun has disappeared, the beautiful colors and light of the blue hour can be great for photography too. Your image is beautiful with dramatic clouds. I especially like the formation of the clouds on the right more because it looks like a dragon descending the ocean.
I'd prefer to crop tighter on the left because the clouds there seems blurred (may be of the handheld shot?) but to leave the sand as it is. Thanks for sharing! |
