3 Dec 23 Comment Hi Mary Ann,
Autumn is also my favorite season when trees that were once green turned into a beautiful scene with gold, red,and orange colors. For this image, the white fence and the red barn accentuate the fall colors and add a lively scene.
I think that the picnic table is a bit distracting. I'd prefer to see more of the two barns, especially the red barn, between the space of big trees since they are mostly covered by the trees. Thanks for sharing your autumn image!

3 Dec 23 Comment Hi Ruth,
I enjoy looking at your photos taken in fall season at different places in Colorado. It's amazing that you visited this place at the right time when the fall colors reached their peak. The golden colored trees against the dark hills in the background are a breathtaking scenery. The abandoned cabin also adds more impact to the image. I like the angle you shot that rendered the cabin in 3D view.
I agree with Michael that the cabin is a bit too dark, and you have corrected by lightening up in your 2nd version. It's a beautiful image, and I don't have any other suggestion for improvement. Thanks for sharing your image!
I do have a question: The single log cabin seems not in good condition with nearly collapsed roof. Is this abandoned cabin intentionally kept there as a photographic spot ? (since it cannot be chosen as a perfect place to stay as vacation rentals?)

3 Dec 23 Comment Hi Robert,
You have captured a beautiful scene of Bryce Canyon! The red rocks, the pink cliffs, and the trees on a sunny day make it a surreal landscape. The image is sharp, and your post processing has accentuated the colors of the sky and the rocks.
I agree with Michael's suggestion to crop tighter on the top to help the viewers focus more on the elements of the canyon. Nice shot!

3 Dec 23 Reply Hi Michael,
When I look at a picture, I always want to study about its history or the story telling because it is essential for me to understand the people, actions, decisions, interactions and the world around us. I enjoy analyzing all the elements of the image. I am not sure whether it comes from my work habits (as a systems analyst) or not.
For your image this month, the human intervention (by maintaining the road and the grass) around the abandoned house triggered my curiosity.
Thanks for engaging into a nice discussion!

3 Dec 23 Comment Hi Michael,
You have captured a beautiful scene of an abandoned house! The beautiful light, good composition with leading road, and your technique using bracketing to make it an HDR, conversion to B&W are all well done!
In my personal opinion, this structure is the remaining building of Creighton/Franklin Gold Mine complex in GA, built in 1890. It is an ideal scenic location for photographers and filmmakers. With that, I'd prefer to crop tighter to focus only on the abandoned house because the well kept lawn and landscape around it conflicted with the decay and overgrowing plants, which makes the scene an organized one.
Thanks for sharing your image and your technique.

3 Dec 23 Comment Hi David,
You have achieved a good panning technique that combines a slow speed with camera motion to create a sense of speed around a moving subject.
I normally use a panning to capture any super fast moving subject, such as a racing car or bike race. In this image, you use panning technique to a slower moving subject to give a shot a feeling of movement. It is effective because at first, I thought that the bike is at still because the lady's feet are all in one side of the bike (probably she just started to bike and was about to jump to the bike's seat). You have got the moving subject sharp while the background become a smooth blur. I especially like the lady's outfit in this image. Nice shot!

3 Dec 23 Reply Hi Michael,
Sorry that my image this month does not meet your expectation.
To me, I purposely use wide angle to capture the clock tower to exaggerate the apparent height of the tower, and include more elements to the frame. I know that the wide angle lenses have issues with distortion, and the tower is about to fall over backwards.
For outdoor architecture photography or high trees, a lot of photographers are using wide, ultra wide, or fisheye lens because it helps to fit the entire height of the subject in the frame - whereas with regular lenses, they might struggle to do so comfortably.
For correcting the perspective, I only want to straighten the horizontal line of image and I don't go through the trouble of  "straightening" lines of images shot.
I appreciate your honest critique and comments!

I agree that the architecture has different looks depending on the angle that the image was captured. I like its internal design more because the structure seems to be in pristine condition. I had one image of the internal structure of this Oviedo Congress and Exhibitions center submitted in October of Group 3. Please check it out if you are interested in.

86 Dec 23 Comment Hi Pat,
You are very creative! Your collage makes the leaves interesting subjects. The collage style you selected with different sizes and orientation is dynamic and works very well.
Your selection of leaves with different details and colors also makes a nice display. One thing that seems to puzzle me is the real size of the leaves. As you explained that the leaves are captured with either telephoto or wide angle lenses. I guess that you did that on purpose. So, I don't have any suggestion for improvement. Thanks for sharing your great idea!

86 Dec 23 Comment Hi Ruth,
Photography is a way to show how you view the world, and find what inspires you. Some photographers love shooting birds, others still life subjects. I like the way you find your photography subject around your house.
In this image, I can see that the Crape Myrtle tree with shiny trunk and red leaves against the blue sky and yellow bush offer a colorful fall picture. Your post processing and adding a thin frame using Snapseed works well. I'd prefer to crop off the tree on the right because there are shadows on it.
Thanks for telling me the tree name. I google and also found out that I had a Crape Myrtle tree with pink flowers in my back yard.
Wishing you and your family a wonderful holiday season!

86 Dec 23 Comment Hi Gene,
You have captured a beautiful Müller organ! This organ is different than some other pipe organs I have seen in some churches in the U.S. because it was decorated with impressive case.
To me, since the pipe organ is high up in the ceiling of the church, the wide angle lens is needed to capture the entire height of it. The distortion is acceptable because it shows a different perspective when the subject is not at the regular eye level. I like the angle you shot this image that gives a 3D view.
I'd prefer to level the horizontal line only to avoid the two bright windows on the right that area bit distracting. Thanks for sharing your image!

86 Dec 23 Comment Hi Jack,
The asymmetrical of the water reflection works well in this image since you have dramatic clouds on the left and a single high tree on the right.
I'd prefer to lighten the trees on both sides of the river since the trees are grouping together and do not have lacy shapes for a good silhouette. Thanks for sharing your image!

86 Dec 23 Comment Hi Wayne,
The different shapes and layers of the ice in a pond created an intriguing image. It looks like a kind of spaceshift to me.
I am debating whether the leaf should be removed to give the scene a totally abstract one and trigger the viewers' imagination.
For the composition, I'd prefer to have a little space on the left because the small piece of ice touches the edge of the frame and to see the full round corner of the big piece of ice on the right. Thanks for sharing your interesting shot!

86 Dec 23 Comment Hi Steven,
You have captured a beautiful Stony Brook Grist Mill! When I first look at it, it resembles to the Glade Creek Grist Mill in West VA, which is also the well known photographed mill in the United States, but I have not had a chance to visit yet.
The infrared filter has given the scene a different feeling. I'd prefer to lighten the water reflection since it's in the foreground and too dark.
I don't know whether the image was taken in fall season or not since the colored foliage around the barn would be a wonderful scenery and better choice than in infrared. Nice shot!

86 Dec 23 Reply Thanks, Steven, for your comments. I did visit Oculus, the NYC transit hub, last year. The architect used the same concept to design Oculus with symbolic of a hand releasing a dove. Oculus is newer than this.
Included is the structure of the Exhibition center, taken from the entrance. At that time, I tried to create something different than the normal shot because the vertical bars do not look interesting to me, so I sat on the floor on the right side and take the vertical pano. What do you think from the original to the final image I created?
