3 Apr 22 Reply Hi LuAnn,
In the original image, the elevated roof on the top has some details such as the vertical stripes on it, but those details diminish when the sky replacement is made. I hope that my explanation helps to clarify my comments above.
Thanks for asking, LuAnn!

3 Apr 22 Comment Hi Ruth,

Your image has a strong story-telling of the surviving skills in the wild. The mother boobie feeds her baby with an enormous piece of food, which has become a more attractive target for stealing. The frigade bird, is a big bird with large wings, can find food easily by itself; however, it sees the soft target and decides to take advantages of the vulnerable situation of mother-child feeding which limits the mother's ability to resist the stealing actions.
The composition of your image with the diagonal lines of the rocks and the spreading wings of the frigade works well. The blurring wings of the frigade bird are acceptable because of moving actions but I think that its face and eyes need to be sharp to be able to convey well the story. It's quite hard for a suggestion to make it fit into nature photography!
I'd suggest you to use Continuous shooting mode with AI servo AF setting next time so that you can well capture the decisive moment in one of those series images.

3 Apr 22 Comment Hi LuAnn,

I can see that capturing the beauty of this scene is a real challenge but you were able to get it nicely. The slow shutter speed setting for the silky water of waterfalls could overexpose the white rocks, but you got all the details of the rocks in this scene quite sharp.
I wish that the waterfalls color could be more crystal clear, but may be because it was the first day that the frozen water began to flow, its color is not quite attractive. I'd prefer to convert it into B&W as Michael's edits version to reduce the dark color of water stream.

I also have a question: Why did your original version have a blueish tint? Did you customize your white balance?

3 Apr 22 Comment Hi Michael,

It's an interesting abstract image! I am amazed of your discovery from the bark peels. Your post processing has rendered the image more beautiful. Having it printed in Fine Art matte paper would be a nice choice for prints too.
I have read your discussion above whether it should be put in Creative/Altered category. To me, comparing to your original image, you did not add/remove anything or change the texture/patterns of the image, so it should not be put in the creative category.

3 Apr 22 Comment Hi John,

Welcome onboard, John! When I first look at your image, I thought that it was taken in an ancient town of an Asian country, with sandstone and tile roof. The panorama crop makes the subject stronger, and the sunset sky makes it more beautiful.
I rarely used sky replacement, and I found that it works well in this case.
I'd prefer to create a layer mask to bring back the details of the triangle roof at the top since the new sky seems to get to that part too.

3 Apr 22 Reply Thanks LuAnn for your kind comments. I will consider to submit this image to the competition. I always think that the image for competition needs a more impactful aspect than the regular flower image like this one. Apr 10th

3 Apr 22 Comment Hi Mary Ann,

Your camera setting and your composition work very well in this image. All the details are sharp and the different colors complement each other. The background color with 2 shades emphasizes the depth of field and also give a separation between the subject and its background. The shadow below the glove seems a bit lopsided, but since it's not a wall or any clear horizon line, it's fine to me.
It's very nice studio shot! I really like your image, and I don't have any suggestion for improvement.

86 Apr 22 Comment Hi Pat,

I enjoy seeing your creativity! You have a great imagination to come up with new and exciting ideas. In this image, you know how to break the routine by doing something different.

I have seen some multicolored architecture designs in different countries in the world but their different colors are specifically in one area moving to the next (for ex, the door frame is yellow, and the door is red) but I have never seen the different colors are even blended in one particular frame or column like your art work. One day, you could become a famous artist by doing something totally different than the norm. Keep up your good work, Pat!

86 Apr 22 Comment Hi Gene,

Nice travel photo! The view with the lines of the brick roof tiles leads the viewers' eyes to the church in the middle, then traverses to another church in the distance. Those two churches stand out from the scene and add the dimension to the scene. I'd prefer to sharpen and enhance the colors a bit more to make those buildings pop. I agree with Ruth that the dark sky does not need to crop tighter since it brings the mood to the scene.

FYI, the square building is the entrance of the museum, and the one on the right is the observation tower where visitors can see flights taking off or landing at the nearby Washington Dulles airport. Please also see my reply to Belinda.

86 Apr 22 Reply Thanks Belinda for your comments! You have very keen eyes! The car is mine when I stopped in the parking lot at the exit way to capture this image. I already stored my SLR in the trunk of my car, so the mobile phone becomes handy. I did not know that the reflection of the car is visible. LOL! Thanks for pointing it out. Apr 14th
86 Apr 22 Reply Thanks Bob for your comments. This sculpture is at the entrance. I had a lot of other images captured at different angles. This image is among the last images I captured from the window of my car when I drove out from the parking lot and suddenly found a different view that interested me. Apr 14th
86 Apr 22 Comment Hi Jack,

It's a beautiful shot of the white sands! Your image is different than the sand dunes I have ever seen. It created a great impact to the viewers because of the twisted forms of the ripples. The blue sky also accentuates the color of the sand and adds the dimension to the image. Another good things that you are able to capture the scene without any footprints or other distracting elements. Although the top left and the top right have lost a bit of details, it seems fine to me since they are in further distance and they bring out the highlights and shadows of the natural scene.

86 Apr 22 Comment Hi Ruth,

What a nice and timely project for Easter! I am sure that the bunnies brought out a lot of good memories of your children when they were young. The blue poster board is a good choice to create a clean background for your image. I agree with Bob that a tighter crop would make your image stronger. Happy Easter to you!

86 Apr 22 Comment Hi Bob,

It's a great abstract image! Your experiment to capture it with Night mode in the morning also make you exceptional. I really like the different shapes and angles that make the image very interesting. The details of the snow with the fuzzy edges around those shapes are also intriguing. The image is well seen and well done! I don't have any suggestion for improvement.

I guess that the Night mode automatically turns the snow covering the table and chair in low light into B&W without any need of B&W conversion. Am I correct? (I did discover this feature a few months ago when I tried to capture an image in a tricky lighting condition)

86 Apr 22 Comment Hi Belinda,

I really love your color version since all the details of the design are accentuated by the different colors of the windows. They blended nicely and pleased to the eyes. No wonder you often stared at this theater from the coffee shop!
Your creativity using Mirror Lab makes the image more intriguing. Now, I often stare at your image to figure out what the magic of the apps has created. LOL!
One nit-pick that I found is the last smiley sculpture on the top right seems to be too close to the one next to it (that could result from the perspective adjustment). Overall, it's a beautiful creative image! Hats off to you!
