Thanks a bunch to LuAnn for finding the name of this music instrument for me! It's called Balafon. Per Wikipedia, Balafon is a gourd-resonated xylophone, a type of struck idiophone. It is an ancient West African music instrument, which creates sounds by vibrating. |

I vote for the 2nd version you edited on 03/04/21. The one you posted on 03/11/21 the 2nd vase (yellow) was half covered in shadows. I really admire your strive for perfection. |

The sky in this image is quite dark and low as if it's going to rain. You have captured this concrete structure from a distance, with the empty parking lot in the foreground. Since there are no objects in the foreground, and the main part of the structure are in dark areas, my eyes go directly to the white building and the cars in the background, I'd prefer to brighten the ceiling of the structure a bit more to show its details and to hold the viewers' eyes there. |

You have all the elements of a beautiful image: the foreground, the river, the background, the sunset, the drama clouds, the two ducks, the rowing boat, and the reflection. I'd prefer to increase the highlights or lighten a bit to show more details of the scene. |

In this image, you were able to capture the rim light around the children's hair. The waves are strong and beautiful, but the sky without clouds seems to be a harsh sunlight. Since the children are mostly facing towards your camera, except the first one on the left is in profile, I'd prefer to see their faces half illuminated, instead in silhouettes. I also agree with other comments that the top part should be cropped tighter since there is too much sky. |

Randolph, i like the original version more because it contains all the details and description of the work that the volunteer is doing. The high folding chair, the orchid, and the action of tying the blue string to the branch. Without those details, the image is simply a portrait and the story cannot be conveyed to the viewers, |

Thanks, Michael! Your edited version has brought out the details of the artist's shirt. I did not pay attention that he was wearing a kind of shiny silky shirt until I saw your edition. I love it! |

I think that your edited version works best because you have eliminated the book which seems to be another subject (although you intended to say that this is a Bauer collection), the lid-like of the blue vase as well as its white shadow that could be draw the viewers' eyes there. It's very nice image with beautiful colors and a variety of shapes! |

LuAnn, you are very creative in using the simple objects in the kitchen to turn into an art piece! I think that it's a good idea to practice shooting still life during this quarantine time.
The egg is quite sharp and its color matches with the foam core. Since you have full control of the lights, I'd prefer to direct the lights to another angle to brighten the forks more and create longer shadows. In this image, I think that the lights are directly above the setting, and the details of the fork seem to be losr.

Michael,
Thanks for your comments. What's your suggestion to create a separation between the drummer's shirt and the natural black background? |

Stephen, some real estate photographers corrected verticals and perspective using the Transform > Skew tools in Photoshop. However, for this image, the stair landings make the image more interesting, and they should not be corrected. Sometimes, the imperfection works better. |

Thanks, Belinda! I love the way that we are here not only to develop our photography skills but also to gain knowledge on the history and culture around the world.
In group 3 this month, LuAnn has found the name of the music instrument that I am looking for.

Thanks Stephen and our group members for your comments. Everyone prefers to leave the glass reflection of the city in this image. I am glad that it turns out to be a happy accident because it"s just a quick shot from my iphone and from a running bus that I have no control of any sort. I only found out that the reflection of the city was included in there at later time. The angel has guided me in this shot! |

Your crop has created a strong image of the palm tree frond. I like the way you left the brown stem base in there to offset the green colors. The two swollen areas of the 2 leaf segments on the top right corner also break the same repetition of the leaves. Since the palm frond has symmetric leaves, I'd prefer to make it center. |

Thanks everyone for your comments. I just learned from the Jeopardy that Metropolis means "mother of the city". What do you think about the building name? |

Great observation, Stephen! The fire escape landings give hints that the image was captured at a low angle. |

Your edited version has brought out all the details and beautiful colors of the water lily. On my screen, the leaves seem over saturated and the water is a bit too dark that make the water reflection less visible. I'd prefer to lighten up a bit the leaves and the water reflection. |

The image is sharp and the fur details around the back of the cat can be clearly seen. Buttercup's body language shows that she is very alert and is trying to decipher the surrounding situation. The newspaper at her feet makes me smile and think that she might be tense of the daily news. |

Nice shot! You did a wonderful job by showing the image at the eye level from the shot captured at the low angle. If you did not include the original image, I would think that you captured it from the opposite building.
The perspective correction is not perfect yet, but it does not bother me at all. The details of the brick walls and the S-shaped of the rusted fire escape are very interesting. I wonder whether the rusted fire escape can still be used in case of emergency? |

The wings of the butterfly have nice details and patterns. I think that the background is quite busy that is a bit distracting. Also, the image does not have good contrast elements for the B&W conversion. I'd suggest you to try to enhance the highlights/shadows before converting into B&W to see if it works better.

Welcome to our group, Jack!
For this image, the composition is great with the leading lines that guide my eyes to travel to the further distance. The different colors of the grass in the foreground, the golden colors of the vines on the hills, and the blue sky with white clouds in the background have created a beautiful scene. I agree with Phill that the sky seems a bit too bright that could draw my eyes there. |
