Ideally, you would use a focus rail on a tripod but that can be next to impossible when you are out in nature. I have practiced with both moving the camera back and forth with the focus fixed and by keeping the camera in position and changing the focus slightly while doing a burst of images. Using a wide aperture can keep the depth of field shallow enough to keep the background from becoming a distraction. |

This is a great shot. Catching the nictitating membrane covering the eye to protect it from the dive really adds to the story as well as the "flying" fish out of the water. |

What ever you get when you do decide to pull over and go back will always be more than you will have if you don't. This one does show that is true. I do agree about the white spot, that can be cropped of and the pole to be removed. The interesting clouds really make the image. |

I like your subject. They eye of the viewer tends to go to the brightest part of an image. In this case, that is probably the upper left corner which would take the eye out of the image. Dave's crop does seem to handle that. You might also work with adding a well feathered vignette or play with the contrast to darken the greens and bright the pod. You might also clone out the bright sky poking through the background. |

I really like this. I seem to be doing a lot of these minimalist types of things lately so it must be my current phase for this year. I wish that the window was further to the left to fill some of that space and to give a little more balance to the composition. |

I probably am around one over the focal length for hand holding as long and the ISO doesn't go too crazy. |

I like the composition with the subject looking slightly away from the camera. It does give a pensive look. Since your camera has in-camera stabilization, do you need to be using that high of a shutter speed? A wider aperture would throw the background further out of focus. |

Good capture. The background does seem to distract from your subject. You might have tried to open up the aperture to throw more of the background out of focus so just the bodies of your subjects is sharp. I am not sure why the legs seem to go out of focus while what they appear to be standing on tends to be sharper. |
