The image feels dismal, wet and windy. The story is effectively told with the setting your share with us for this image. It works for me for the story and feeling, but I perhaps would like it a touch sharper |

I like your image very much for its composition and keeping a wonderful focus on the heron within the tree. I think the shadows could be opened up some so that I can see a bit more detail in the bird in the darker areas.
To answer your questions, my place settings for photographing birds such I use a single focus point to focus on the bird's head, that I set ISO to float, minimum shutter speed to 1/1600s to 1/2000s, use aperture priority to manage my depth of field and with birds at a distance and in fight keep the shutter as wide open as possible. Thus, I am ready for either stationary or quick movements as well as fight. |

Your image is very good. I think the details and panoramic effect of the scene is quite beautiful. My only nit, is that the clouds distract and perhaps need to be softened somehow so as not to draw my eye toward them. The true subject is the cityscape. |

Very beautiful image. The play of light is exquisite. I have no suggestions to offer. You have captured a moment of light and how it plays on water and structure so well. |

I find the image well conceived and composed. It is a wonderful abstract focused on lines as its subject. The tonal and dynamic range of grays, whites to black is well done. |

Jerry, isn't this El Capitan in Yosemite National Park? This is a much photographed scene in many variations of lovely landscapes both in monochrome and color. It is beautiful to behold. With that said, I find the view of this majestic and iconic mountain formation very down played by the tree on the left as well as the subject of your image, the pre-historic creature you mention. I could not, without, your telling us, understand what it was and why it was. Perhaps, I have seen the scene or the images of many that focus on the rock formation and it has corrupted me from seeing something else. Frankly, I am sorry, I don't care for the image and many of the distracting elements include the tree on the left and the subject very disconcerting. |
