As in many abstracts, there are lots of possibilities for the viewer to interpret what they see a many different ways. I also think as others have suggested that there are more than one image within this canvas. That being said, the tonality works for me and I am fascinated with the ebb and flow of the swirling lines within the black and white motif. I would go so far as to suggest even more than two images and even two faces. If you crop in the middle, you can create a fascinating image with face within a face, too. The artist can crop at his hearts content to create variations while still having this wonderful full view. Well done for sharing this exciting work of art. |

Helen, I like the image. It seems vintage and even perhaps 20s or 30s silhouette in style. I agree with a little more vignette to pull the viewers eye to the subject. Nicely done! |

FYI...everyone. I mistakenly uploaded at first Jerry's image to February due to him not being able to send it right away. The system defaults to the next month for an upload if I don't pay sufficient attention. Jerry will be able to submit a different image in February that will override this entry. The is the only way I can delete it.
Now, Jerry...I really like this image for tonality, composition and the vintage feel. Well done! |

Regarding monochrome conversion...nicely done. Otherwise, I can't say I care for the subject and composition...too many distracting elements between the rug, the curtains, the windows, and the protective sheet on the rug. |

Here is the original color version slightly tweaked in Lightroom. The Fuji 18-55mm f2.8-4 lens is exquisite for travel on any of the Fuji X series cameras. The X-Pro2 is an especially go performer with the lens. By the way, this was 18mm on APS crop sensor 1.5 such as Nikon or Sony. The Aspect Ratio of 2-3 was set in camera and wasn't changed for this presentation. |

Thanks for the comments. The suggested crop is a good alternative, but does impact the sky. A different vantage point could have been achieved to show more of the city or crouch down perhap might have been an option. Regarding moving forward, that was not an option given steep slope on the side of the trail and a railing. For me the sense of place and the nature of the environment is enhanced by the tree. Regarding the white of the buildings, the histogram shows I controlled the noon light fairly well. Even in the color version which is little left of spiking the at the end of the histogram the white is intense. Some of the buildings were very smooth white. It starts to become how far one goes with slider before the true white becomes blunted. Again, thanks for thoughts and suggestions. |

I like the original version, personally, for the sense of story it provides and the related tonal control to see beyond the bird. For me there are two images here that can speak differently to the viewer. One that is cropped and focused on the bird and another that shows the bird in its habitat. In the end, it only matters what the photographer is attempting to present and to what purpose and well that is done. I like all your variations accordingly. |

Wonderful monochrome and your sunset image is wonderful, too. When I was there I captured images in early morning just after sunrise. I think you captured the color version the best. I like the monochrome, but think the sky works more favorable in color. So perhaps some selective sky tonal adjustments might add to the image. |
