31 Oct 21 Comment Excellent tonality and range of black to white to create a dynamic feel that tells a story, a feeling for the moment and is full of emotional appeal. Well done. Oct 23rd

32 Oct 21 Comment Beautiful tonality and depth of field. I think the bend in the road would work better if totally within the frame and not being cut off. I would even suggest a little of ground space at the bend to give the image balance. However, I once again feel the tonality and the overall sharpness of the image is excellent. Oct 23rd

47 Oct 21 Comment Beautiful scene and well composed. However, the grain detracts a little from the monochrome. Oct 23rd

64 Oct 21 Comment Jerry, I like the original image as you tell it. The story is definitely completed with the second bird. My only suggestion is to open up the shadows a little but otherwise leave the image framed in the same way with both birds. Wonderful image! Oct 18th
64 Oct 21 Comment Stuart, I like your original posting and definitely not the alternative you posted. My reasons are that you intuition was right on in the first post for the silhouette of the people and their placement in the scene, leads my eye through the image is a very pleasing way. The light is dramatic and it needs space to play on the rocks and the water with the sky just about right to not detract from the subject of the jetty with all people. I love the image. Well done. 64 Oct 21 Comment Helen, the image doesn't quite work for me. I am sorry to say, it seems too contrived. Perhaps the I am influenced too much by knowing its source being the original. If you had posted it without the original and without the title, perhaps I would taken it for some abstract study and just taken it at image value. But given, I know its source, I am influenced to find it not particularly interesting even given your nice effort to show contrasting light and shadow, because the flow of the lines fails to grab me. Again, it seems I am forced to look for what it is based on the title.

The original monochrome image work for me, because it does provide a natural flow, natural relationship of shadows and light and, perhaps, because I am predisposed to like the relationship of the table and can assume it is chair illuminated with deep shadow and intense light. That tells, for me, a more powerful story with the strong lines. Nonetheless, it is an interesting study.

64 Oct 21 Comment I like your image. It is interesting with visual elements that contrast with the bridge. Your image is quite sharp throughout and the tonal range is quite nice. I like the story and the image works to evoke a strong feeling of place, past and contrasting elements within the scene. Oct 17th
64 Oct 21 Comment I prefer the color version. I don't feel the strength of the scene in monochrome that I do in the color. Perhaps adding some contrast and little tone curve might the the spark plug to make it work for me. Oct 17th
64 Oct 21 Comment This is dramatic and powerful with interesting composition and choice for angle of the locomotive. I thing the image has bit too much contrast with darks a little too prevalent in some areas. Oct 17th

83 Oct 21 Comment This is an excellent monochrome image even if considered by others to be too artistic. To me it offers a fully range of tone. Some of the best art is monochromatic and in this case, I find, in my opinion, very creative and wonderfully toned.. Oct 23rd
