These birds are seemingly so ungainly and yet so capable. I recently photographed some and they are just a pleasure to behold in action. Indeed, they are comical at times and one might think they will get all twisted up with themselves. Well done and your color harmony and choice for presentation works nicely. I like this a lot. |

Lovey image in terms of color, focus, composition, visual pleasing story and so compelling, I think. I just enjoy looking at it. Well done. |

Wonderful capture of the bird with its fish. The only issue for me, I think, is that the background grasses would be nicer toned down some and/or blurred some. I find the clarity, sharpness and luminous colors compete for my attention. I suspect that an increase shutter speed and wider aperture would have helped in this case. F/13 just brings so much into detail to compete with the bird. Nice capture. |

The color of the leaves and yellow blossoms is quite nice and the image appears sufficiently sharp. However, I am not sure of the subject here and I find the upper third of the image chaotic and distracting. I have no idea, unfortunately, in this case what your story is or the focus. I also think that overall the tonality of the image is rather flat. Carol has a nice idea, but you would need to be careful of your highlights and the haze. By doing a vertical, the bed of flowers could an accenting element for a specific subject. An alternative might be to shift angle of view and focus on some flowers with the bed of flowers and let patterns be your friend or even through some of the flowers out of focus and just show the ones you are specifically focused on. |

I like the idea of the image and the story...nice action. The color is very nice. I do find the way the bird folds into the branches, twigs, etc. in the background less pleasing without enough separation of the bird from the background. Mike's suggestion of 1/1600s is a good one. Even then in some instances, depending of the focal length and degree of speed of the bird, some softness will occur and a higher shutter speed is needed. As a rule I have my birding in flight camera set to 1/1600s "minimum" and pay the price sometimes for not increasing shutter speed during BIF activity. That also will help some in separation with an f stop closer to f5.6, 6.3 or 7.1 depending on the light. Where you using auto ISO?
However, in spite of my comment, I think you got a very nice image and think you are on to something about getting a bird in flight...that is great fun and oh, so satisfying. |

Sharon, I like the image, particularly the actual three flowers. I am sure it has potential for a gallery. My only nit is my eye doesn't lay comfortably on the branches and buds in the remainder of the frame. Perhaps lightening them some will render some balance to the image. Somehow, for me, my eye falls down in that area and because I think it is too dark. |

Wow! I won't speak for Stan, but I find your thoughts and ideas very novel and even way beyond what I would have ever considered in Viewing such an interesting image. Perhaps I am at a disadvantage in imagination because I saw Stan's image before this interesting crop version that he posted on Facebook. I am so often learn new ways of seeing even if they fall outside my prevailing ideas. |

Jerry, I like the image a lot. The tonality, contrast, background, foreground all help to tell the story quite nicely. I think, it would be even more compelling if done in portrait mode and Jerry F, suggests. I like the reflection and actually would like to see more. I also think this arch and the stone could be centered more in this case and work well. I also find the bottom edge of the stone bench could be straightened slightly while cropping of on the left. Nice image. |

Stuart, I like the idea and the graphic elements expressed in this scene and its composition. I like Jerry F., idea about the square or tighter aspect ratio crop, too. However, in spite of that, the grain is not particularly appealing to me...but that is a personal taste I think. My artsy whimes might not be liked by everyone, too. So, in my opinion, this would work better if the grain was subdued and the overall contrastiness was minimized. Fun image, though. |

Ahbijeet, I like the idea of this image and the overall tonal quality works for me including depth of field and compositional way of seeing. I have a couple of thoughts, that in my opinion would have improved the possibilities for your image. First, I think this image could be cropped tighter to the window and the window toned down...that brightness draws my eye away from the girls. Second, the angle of view diminishes in my opinion the sense of interaction that is hinted at in this image because we can't see the girl's face behind the girl in the front. Nonetheless, it is a precious moment that you captured. |

Stan, this is wonderful! The patterns, textures and tones with shadow and light so nicely captured and the enhancing element of the person in the image makes this a very compelling image. Well done. |

Lovely image in both mono and color. Well done. I have to agree that a slight visual separation might make the image even sing more then it already does. The exposure and tonality is wonderful, though and it is print worth. |

I like this image for the patterns and reflections. My thought, though is that it would be more compelling if the trees were not cut off at the top. An alternative view, that might be fun is to rotate the image to achieve a right side up reflection. Nice way to see capturing all those patterns and textures. |

Thanks for your comment, Jerry Funk. I rather like the silhouette as not inclined to lighten the sails. The clouds could be more dramatic and I will give that consideration for an alternative approach. |

Yikes, that seems way too dramatic for my tastes...but, it is definitely an idea for future consideration in some other scene. In this case, it was lazy hot day seen from a beach and so I have to do some pretending to make it look your way...definitely a valid approach. Thanks. |
