Thanks for your input! And Stuart, you are right about the lightness at the top...this is the benefit of multiple pairs of eyes! |

Thank you!!! Except the original is actually after my adjustments and the added texture. Which works better for you? I dislike using textures for insect backgrounds, but when they are sitting on a garage door, the background just feels very intrusive. I tried darkening the white, but it really still didn't feel right to me. Input and suggestions are greatly appreciated!!

Cheryl, thank you for providing us with some detail about the capture and treatment. It really helps in giving feedback! I think you did a great job using natural light. The colors are complementary, you've got a nice level of clarity on your blooms, and the bounced light gives your subject the best amount of depth with your light and shadow. I really find the dark background very pleasant. If you could eliminate or burn down that white area at the bottom, it would make it even better...white draws the eye, and that's a large area of white contrasting against your nice black background. This is a really great capture. |

Wow, terrific impact of all these beautiful and complementary colors!! The placement of the center and the crop works well for me as viewer, lending it great balance. I would love to try a tighter crop on the left side to eliminate that brown leaf, or maybe just pluck it off. A tighter crop would also eliminate the "busyness" of that upper left corner, but it is also a wonderful, captivating image left as is. |

I like how this shows something akin to a "progression." From purely a technical perspective, your white balance and balance of shadows and highlights feels perfect, as does clarity/sharpness. I also feel like the balance of greens and neutral brown tones work very well. It may have been a quick grab, but I really like what you've done with it! |

You have captured excellent clarity, white balance, and lighting in this. The crop also works very well. If I was going to give any suggestions, it would be the background. There is a very defined line in the lower left corner that is more distraction for me than leading line. Same with the darker greens on the right side. Can you do any softening of that background in post? I cannot see how you got from your original to the final image, but your final image is a great shot as a handheld...I certainly could not get anything that sharp handholding at 1/400!! |

You did a really nice job on the lighting of this...there are no hotspots, which is one of the hardest things to avoid. I am not certain about the Midnight filter and would love to see the "before" since the stem and leaves look very soft, while the flower itself looks really sharp and clear. What did you use for lighting? If a flashlight, maybe hit that very top of the flower a bit more...and from an angle pointing the light down onto just the tip of the flower? Overall, though, I think you have done a great job with this, very dramatic rendering! |
