I actually considered putting this on a slant. I took a few different angles and used some different lighting, including some that was with the Nautilus not the skeleton. There was just something about this one and the way it was all about the skeleton. And yes, it is a Fibonacci spiral. |

I agree with the previous comments that the crop was necessary and made it a better image. Sometimes in our attempt to include environment, we just include too much extraneous material which takes away from the actual subject. In this case you have lovely detail in the spider, but because of its angle, you need to put all the emphasis straight onto it. Another thing that really works well for this is the lighting that you captured and also the subtle colors. I think with just this few different colors. It really makes your spider stand out. |

What a stunning shot! It is one of the clearest captures of a mosquito that I have seen. Everything worked very well together on this, particularly the crop the angle of the nasty little bug and the predominance of greens in various tones. I'm with your wife on this one, I hate Mosquitoes. |

A great capture Stuart and your strengths on this image are how clearly you have captured the fly, particularly the eyes, the colors that are so complementary, the beautiful soft background, and the slightly angled plant with the fly right at the top. The lighting looks very balanced between light and shadow. I do believe that your remake of it worked better. At first, I was disturbed by the crop because I felt like there wasn't enough room for the fly to look forward but once you re-cropped it I think that evened it out perfectly. |

I understand what you are trying to do here and I commend you for doing something outside the box. The colors really go well together and the shapes make for the strength of this image for me. unfortunately, as a viewer, I have a hard time looking at anything blurry that is so close to being in the front. It is almost like trying to look through a chain-link fence for me. I hope my comment does not seem to abrupt, but I am having to dictate everything as I fractured my shoulder and my upper arm, both, over the weekend. Just typing anything this way is very labor intensive, isn't it?

This is a really great picture and I think that the changes that Stewart suggested are perfect. I love the symmetry of it. Your crop really works well and with one part of the subject coming through Strong and the other part of the subject, obviously being the reflection, it really comes across well. I also really like that there is just the faintest hint of red to your background which works so nicely against the greens of your marble and reflection. |
