95 Oct 25 Comment This makes for a great abstract with loads of detail in the rock's surface. For a subject that is probably very reflective, you've done a great job with the lighting, whether in the capture or in post. A good capture of your subject. Oct 17th
95 Oct 25 Reply Hopefully this will answer the questions from the three of you...these are small prayer paraphernalia that are outside in the elements. The paper has parts that show a bit of wear as a result. Hence the inconsistency in colors across the paper. The only light available is the natural light that can reach where the piece is located. My goal was to isolate the single piece from its background, and I was opting to take most of my images with only my phone...nothing extra at all, so no lighting assists, nothing to assist in a hand-held capture. 95 Oct 25 Comment What a great capture of the bee in flight! It is sharp exactly where it should be. I am also assuming that the wing is blurred from motion. One thing I would be cautious about is any manipulation in post--on the left hand side, it looks like you've fooled a bit with the background...maybe some cloning behind that wing? Part of the beauty of being in the study groups is that everybody views an image differently, and the input is supposed to help us to see what we might not have seen when we were in post. Oct 17th
95 Oct 25 Comment Nicely captured! I love the crop you gave it. The center of the flower is so clear and lit very naturally; it would be very helpful if you could share more info about your capture details (lighting, was it handheld, any special lens added, etc.). I also would like to know about the kind of orange cast on the left lower corner? Is that the flower? It almost feels like something was encroaching slightly on the phone lens. Oct 17th
95 Oct 25 Comment Beautifully done, Pat! Your background is so lovely, and the composition shows your flower off very well. On the bottom left, that stem is showing some either movement or artifacts? It is, coincidentally, the same area with the brighter area of green behind it, which draws my eye as a viewer directly toward it. If there's a way to fix that, terrific. I think Mike's idea of tilting the composition is worth a try. The overall capture is too good to just let that one thing detract from it. Oct 17th
95 Oct 25 Comment This is a great capture of a difficult subject. I found the clarity to be spot on. There are two areas that are not in focus, the "antennae" and the very top and very bottom of the flower. I think a more square crop would enable you to eliminate the very top portion if you felt it was warranted...and still be a very comfortable composition. I was surprised that with bracketing, that front antennae was still not in focus. However, you captured the eye so beautifully!! That eye really gives it life. Bracketing continues to be a puzzlement at times for me, but if anyone can coax it to maximum effectiveness, it is you. Oct 17th
95 Oct 25 Comment I feel like you have really captured the essence of this flower--nice sharp petals with the green in the background comfortably soft. It has depth and texture, making it come alive for me as a viewer. Beautiful capture; well done! Oct 17th
