Thank you-and you are right! On both counts. Yes, it's a flower, and yes, those darned highlights! When I use the highlights slider, I get grays introduced. When I brush it in, it doesn't look natural to me. Cloning works but is very labor intensive. Any suggestions from the group on how these should best be eliminated? |

Sorry I missed the goal. There's a woman photographer you might take a look at-Lisa C and husband is Tom, also a photographer. An Italian name. She does a series of Wabi Sabi you might find inspirational for your Impermanence project. |

Keith, that is a really nice treatment for this coneflower. I love the dark background; it looks very natural, as though it was in the original capture. Tips of the petals are hard to gauge...it doesn't bother me, but many viewers ARE bothered by that. However, what I found challenging is the shorter petal. It feels unnatural. But leaving that aside, I think it is a pleasing image and well done. |

John, this is a nice image...it has a pleasing crop and composition. You've done a nice job on capturing the bee; my only recommendation is that you raise the shadows on its face. The eye needs to stand out more or else it appears we are looking at the back of its head. But that might be a difficult fix. Your lighting is very nice. I agree on ridding the small highlight triangle on the bottom edge, but the specular highlights on the bee don't trouble me. I feel on winged creatures that it gives them a bit of life. |

I think you have done well with what you had to work with. This would be a very difficult flower under any circumstances. That blurred bit is troublesome for me, as it keep pulling my eye. If you could even clone it completely out, it would improve the image. I think the thing that works best about this is the simplicity of the background and the color combination. |

OMG!! Decent? It's spectacular! This is a competition-worthy image, IMHO. I love the colors, the sharpness, the lighting. I wouldn't change a thing. The crop works very well! Fantastic image, Stuart! |

Maybe because, as Stuart pointed out, this wasn't really a macro image to begin with, I am having a difficult time with the crop. I agree that the white slice along the bottom must go. I am also finding the greyish spots difficult...I know what they are, but they seem to be an intrusion? The subject, and the strong sharp point, is in the (?) pistals...but the crop encompasses so much more. I think I would find a way to start again with a fresh capture? Remember, this is only one person's opinion; others may feel differently. |

Wow! 72 images? Well, no matter what, you captured this ranunculus nicely. I love the texture and the details of your image. The light is very pleasing to my eye. The crop works for this since you are looking straight down on a round flower. Great image

Thanks, Stuart! Yes, I was bummed at all the highlights...I think I should have had a filter on my lens, maybe a circular polarizer? I'm not great at using the filters or even deciding which to use, even though I've looked the info over a million times. Senior brain, I guess. |
