Thank you for your input on this question. The compromise would be to dim or minimize the shells. This is the value of our feedback to each other! |

It does change the story...now it is just a frog hopping along. Perhaps it is a "for the image archives" image?

Thanks, Stuart. Originally I left the rock in and it really felt like that last scene in Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. But I felt the rock was distracting as thought he had nowhere to move into. |

Interesting that with a tripod and at f13, it is so soft. By going back to the original, I am going to venture that it is cropped too much. I think the poor little bugger should RIP at this point...he has given you all he can. I have a bunch of live wasps I can donate, lol! I hope you are going somewhere relaxing and fun. Anything live is always harder to shoot in Macro (even when it's dead!), but you are to be commended on experimenting with this one. That's how we learn! |

You are the master of surprising Macro subjects, Tom! I would have thought this was shadows cast on the ground from a tree if I didn't know better! It is a great abstract image. If I was really grasping for any suggestion, I would say on the left side and lower edge it is a bit soft, but nothing that detracts from the serenity of the image for me. |

Great image, Pat! It is perfect in its simplicity! The lighting and square crop work well, and where you've placed the sharpness also works very well for this image. I wouldn't change a thing about it! Very artistic! |

This capture feels perfect to me, sharp in all the right areas with small details on the leaves and center. The white balance, the background, and the strong colors all work well together. A squarish crop feels perfect for this. Excellent image, IMHO! |

I love your capture of the face and front part of its legs; I know that sometimes you have only moments to get shots of things like this. f9 is sort of puzzling--I would have expected more of its front to be in focus. I normally don't like to go above f11 on Macro, but even f16 might have been preferable. With being on a tripod, you had the option to hope it didn't move and increase the length of the shutter or move up the ISO quite a bit since you were so low at ISO100. Unless you are going to use this in a competition, I would suggest you try to get rid of the wood as it creates a very sharp demarcation. If you could have changed where you were shooting from--but then the face wouldn't be face-on to you. |

Nicely done; the softness works well for this to create a dreaminess with just the one part in sharp focus. Because it is the piece closest to me as viewer, it work perfectly to focus my eye without any discomfort. Your white balance feels correct, and your background gives it environment without distraction. I also really like your placement in the frame and the crop you've used. |
