Thank you, Pat. I used at least two backgrounds here in my composite. The trick for me has always been melding the original subject back in seamlessly. Perhaps I will submit an article to the Journal about textures. I see from the train image by Allen Calopisis that I have a lot to learn about compositing! |

First, Tom, no "failures." We might not meet our vision expectations, but the whole point of this is to learn and improve our technique. Second, we all have a vision. It's so hard not to suggest changes that change the entire vision. I encourage us to concentrate on things that improve the maker's vision, not change it to our own vision.

Like with Stuart's image, I say leave as is if you can't easily eliminate those two circles. Tom did a good job of elimination (maybe he can explain what he used to do it). I personally do not like the diagonal. It was a great image as it was taken, with mystery and yet still knowing what the subject was in the Macro.

Not saying I don't like the desaturated remake, but the red didn't bother my senses, and I find the new red a bit dull. Actually, now the whole picture feels like it has a haze over it for me, and it definitely is NOT the red of a living flower. I say "leave it alone." |

Keith, I love this image. The tack sharp capture, the catch light in its eye, the beautiful lighting and perfect white balance all work together to make this an excellent image. Can you clone out the green in the top left corner, using that white soft area, maybe like a patch? The bit of green detracts from what would otherwise be a perfect image from my perspective as viewer. |

Very interesting and the front detail has been captured so well. I feel the body is a bit soft? Almost like it lacks contrast? While I think focus stacking could be just fine for this, I don't see that it produced a benefit, and I agree with Stuart EXCEPT that your focus stack apparently gave you the front and back legs in perfect focus--so I am not clear what happened to the eyes and body? Do you think it could just be too much light hitting his shell? |

Very interesting image, and I like when only a part of the image is in absolute focus; this image has a feeling of mystery and brings my eyes right into the image. I would like to see the two bits on the front lower-edge be replaced with the blurred color adjacent to it, as the bubble shape, being brighter and in the forefront, is a bit distracting to me. I still love this image, though, and think its a great macro! |

This is a wonderful image. The bee is so crystal clear and detailed, and it has beautiful lighting on it. My only comment for future is that it would be nice to leave some room on the left hand side so the entire flower gets in. Otherwise, it would be nice to crop in on both sides of the flower but you can't do that here without cutting part of the bee out. But to my eyes, this is so absolutely pleasing, and the colors work very well together. |
