Good call, Tom! And this reinforces what Stuart (I think it was) said about us putting up our dirty washing...it helps us to see what we didn't see when we took and/or processed the image and makes better photographers of us! |

I didn't post the settings, did I? I will blame the ongoing jet-lag when I posted this. I agree, a higher shutter speed could help if its blur based on motion. I honestly don't know what caused it: motion blur should have affected the whole subject. I think its a DOF issue. And thank you! |

You did a great job on the sharpness and settings without having to resort to stacking. I love the clarity, and the separation from your background. There are some areas on the yellow/white that maybe could be brought down a smidgen on the exposure, mainly as you move toward the base. Definitely perfect at the top edge (the pointy end). I also feel the color combination is very pleasing. Did you tone down the greens? I actually liked seeing more of the green, but that's a personal like. I think leave in more of the base, too! The only other thing I would suggest is to look at alternatives in cropping; it doesn't feel right lying on its side like that. Up/Down or angled? Good job, though, in its capture! |

Well, I do love Clematis, and you have got quite a nice texture here; your sharpness is good as well. The only downside for me is that the isolation of this one piece doesn't personally present any interest for me as an image--and that could be solely due to the crop? I don't know. Technically, well-done on the capture and lighting. |

Reminds me of the rock candy we used to make at home as kids! I immediately saw what you meant about the areas that are out of focus, and they seem to be mostly forward, like your stack started too far in? I know in stacking, there are two different ways to do it, and one you begin your focus on the edge closest to the camera. In the other, you start your stack about one-third or mid-way in. Tom is the expert on this, I think. A very challenging macro, for sure. Your background separated out nicely and is wonderfully soft. |

I do understand that they eat barnacles (not raw, of course) as a snack in Portugal, although I didn't try them while I was there. Your image has a wonderful clarity and texture that produced a feeling for me of almost being in contact with them. The lighting is very well-done, and shows lots of depth with great shadows and highlights. I think it is very nicely captured; I do see the dark shadow area that Keith mentioned, but that would be an easy fix and not really distracting to me, so...

Beautiful contrast and lighting that works well for your subject. Your image is sharp in all the right areas to my eye. I wouldn't expect or want it to be sharp throughout, as it wouldn't then draw the attention to the subject and the immediate surroundings of the subject that you have done with your capture. Well done! |
