I have a fairly recent version. I changed computers, and couldn't get the older version to work :-( |

Thank you, Gloria! I love this group as sometimes we only know our own tastesâ¬and fail to see things others catch. So glad to have you join our group! |

Gloria, so sorry to hear you've been ill! On that 100mm macro lens, focus in manual, then rock back and forth gently to capture great focus. Make sure your diopter is adjusted to your vision. And use live viewâ¬.it's astonishing how something that looks beautifully focused is terribly soft once enlarged :-( |

Yes, Gloria hit it right on the head for me⬠either the whole leave or the details totally filling the frame. |

ha ha, I don't always KNOW what the flower is!
I felt like I was describing a feeling more than anything. But certainly I should take the time to learn which flower and then see if I can incorporate it into the name. Point taken! |

Thank you, Keith! I really love Color Efex...the Vignette filter that allows you to select a color, control the opacity, size, etc. is wonderful. |

Wow, that butterfly was hauling buggy, wasn't it? Your flower is so pretty, I think the butterfly is superfluous and distracting because of the intense motion. I actually thought it was a bird. So if I just concentrate on your hibiscus, your composition is good; I might add to the right-hand side just to allow some room for the (pistol? stamen? I can never remember!!). I especially like the center texture. If you have access to this flower again, try focus stacking to get all of that yellow in focus. I'm not sure increasing the f-stop would be the better alternative since you were already at f8. Don't go any higher than f16, but see if that gives you more focus up front. Or focus on a point just slightly closer to the front of the flower? I like your hibiscus capture, though! |

This is an interesting image...but I do feel it is very out of focus. What I sense is that there was movement between the takes that you stacked. If you look closely at the lower left edge, you will see three edge lines. Also, I agree with Stuart about the background and cropping. I would have used a nice, neutral background color that picks up a color from the rock. Taupe? A vignette in that color with a diminishing opacity? If you have Color Efex, you can still do this to just play around. On the positive side, I like your even lighting! And I feel that at f10, you didn't need to focus stack. That should have been enough to get a good focus on that particular subject. |

With the goal of capturing the face of the rock well, you have hit it spot on. Your white balance looks good; your detail down through the center (or should I say across the center) also feels good. I am disturbed as a viewer by the couple of out-of-focus edges which aren't uniform, so feel like they should have/could have been cropped out. The back corners are fine, being very subtle, but the lower left edge is too in-my-face. The lower right corner would be okay but for that line that leads right into and delineates it as though it is part of something else. I suggest a different crop. |

You've captured some beautiful lighting on this, along with tack sharpness. Your shadows and highlights present a wonderful contouring with each layer of the flower in sharp focus. Very nicely done! |

What a beautiful image, Fran! There is nothing about this I would change, but if you are really scrambling for something, maybe leave the smallest bit of extra room on the right hand side so the (stamen?) doesn't feel crowded. Kudos to you on this gorgeous, well balanced, and artistic image! |

Tom, this is a very pleasing capture...the color balance and the detail and texture all work great together. Your crop is interesting...and it is fine, although I am curious about what other crops were available. It's not exactly diagonal but its also not exactly straight. Your lighting and contour capture are also very good; the softness makes me want to reach out and feel it! I find the lighting perfect. Overall, technically fantastic and aesthetically very, very pleasing! |
