Yes, it was better without the little splash of Orange pulling my eye over |

For myself, I still prefer the one submitted as it gives me more of a contextual feel and it also doesn't feel so tight. |

Thanks for the link; I have the same problem with getting things tight enough, then sometimes I can't untighten them!! Amazon will accept a return on something that just doesn't work. I have ordered it and will play. It says it works for up to 33 lbs., so I can't imagine needing such a strong weight for stability! |

I think better before, actually!! Despite masking, it somehow affected the perfect balance of softness v. clarity of the flower! I think leave it as is. If you have Lightroom, try a very small brush and just raise either exposure or shadows by brushing it into the head? |

Hi Stuart, and thank you for your input! I am trying to see what shadow you are referring to, but cannot. I think maybe the grey you are seeing are the more secondary petals? The background should be completely blown out by the white background, so there wouldn't be any shadows. If anyone else can direct me to what you are seeing, I would appreciate it. Or if you can pinpoint the area more specifically for me? My eyes are not that great anymore.

What kind of extension arm? That is my biggest problem for shooting water drops on glass.

Pat, you nailed it on the focus...the sharpness between two softer bands works so well for this. Nice sharp colors and great lighting. I wouldn't change anything about this! |

I do love bees (in photographs) and you've done a great job in his detail. His head and antennae feel a little bit (a very little bit) soft to me, but if you raise the shadow detail locally on just his head, that may take care of that? Very cool image! And so sorry to push everyone this time! But my break was worth it! |

Wow...very interesting. The color combination and the sharpness are so perfect in my view, with beautiful lighting. There are some very, very minor hotspots, but nothing too apparent. It just adds to the feeling of "goo" which I'm sure was present on this little guy! The leading lines and the composition are also really great contributing aspects of this. Wonderful job! |

What a fabulous image! I find that the blend of softness along with the harder curves is a very pleasing combination. The white is captured perfectly, with just the barest bit of soft shadows to give it all contour. I wouldn't change a thing; this is competition worthy IMHO. Can you tell us more about your lighting?

Tom, the clarity you've captured works very well for this, as does the nicely balanced soft shadows interspersed with light. My only suggestion would be to leave a bit of space all around, so that it looks more "framed." That is, of course, purely personal preference. I understand that it is a section close-up, but aesthetically, I find it uncomfortable to see pieces cut off as they are. Great capture! And thanks for showing us your set-up! |
