I have been exploring the alternatives of indoor setups-playing with a $16 Lightbox, a black trifold, or materials like Mylar. Does this interest you? I wrote an article on it, part of a multi-part series, for NNWP magazine. I'd be glad to share my info. |

Hmmm, I like the idea of a conversion to a sketch. My suggestion would be to make it a high-key sketch--a white background instead of black. Your areas that lack detail would then fit right in, and it would place more emphasis on the delicacy of those leaves. Nice work! |

A cool image with great impact! The tack sharpness of the water, as well as the tiny starbursts and that single area that looks almost like it may be a drop (?) help me to focus my eye before moving around by all the leading lines that keep me within the overall image. Very interesting subject; almost an abstract but not quite. |

Boy, I'll say this is some scary looking wasp!! The composition and color balance feels spot on to me. Great feel to the lighting, too! Your background provides a very comfortable backdrop for this, while not fighting the greenery your subject is parked on. My only suggestion would be that your focal point seems to be the wasp's hind-end--the front thingies and top of head (?) are slightly, slightly soft. That is the only thing that I think would make this not the perfect image. |

The pattern in this presents a very striking contrast. I would venture to say that the softness I am detecting may be due to handholding at 1/60 with a focal length of 150mm. An impossible combination to handhold without any shake at all. In looking at your original, I see the area on the far right is the sharpest part of the image, but the rest of it is definitely not in sharp focus to my eye. Once you crop in, you've lost pixels, too, right? Since this is taken with a macro lens, I'm curious about your decision to photograph the entire piece of bark first, then to crop in? |

Thanks, Bob! That is the effect I wanted…ethereal. |

Yes, Stuart, you are right. It was raining, too, with very high winds. I had to get down into a very awkward position as well. However, I could fix the stem issue-I agree about the disembodied look. |
