Yes, I see what you are saying, and although the crop is too tight on the left for my taste, I think some elimination of distracting elements is in order. Eliminating too much, though, takes it out of the context that she has set up her little beach scene in the middle of a busy shopping district. |

Wonderful feeling from the composition with my attention squarely on the couple and her obvious feeling for the young man. The tree sets time, and their clothing creates a feeling of warmth on a cold day. It's not, for me, that the background isn't subtle. It is more a feeling of tension from it being superfluous-not strong enough to say how the beach plays into it, but too bright to blend quietly away from the story. Maybe darkening the background and placing some light on the couple to separate them from the background? I include the tree with the couple, not the background. I like the story you've captured. |

The scene is great: bright, detailed, interesting. I think I would have liked to see her on his level, in lieu of standing over him. Her pose makes me feel like they are in separate scenes, not interacting at all-which is the story here. I do like Ed's addition of the vignetting for condensing the scene into a feeling of more intimacy. My overall reaction is that I expect to see a couple celebrating, but I don't feel any connection between the two individuals. |

Ed, your treatment with black and white does work well for this, lending it a feeling to go with the image of leaning on the other's shoulder. A tighter crop would work better for me, because the random folks milling around makes for a totally different backstory. The individual in white feels too prominent to me. With a crop to eliminate them, the man becomes a callous, oblivious bystander to the drama taking place next to him, and tells its own story. |

The strong contrast and sharpness of your subject's face pulls her right out from the activity around her. The big glasses and the hat give her a very mysterious, clandestine look. This works well to create a question for the viewer about The Who and why behind the image. Great capture! |

This struck me immediately as a very compelling image, full of emotion. The composition and color combinations work very well in this image, as does the juxtaposition of the bars over the shelter. There isn't anything I would change in this; it definitely feels competition worthy to me. I also don't feel like monochrome is the way to go on this one. |

I think I just misunderstood what your intent was! When I read what you wrote to go with your image, I thought it was intentional but I didn't grasp that it was a perspective study. |

The sharp areas work so well with the water spray adding texture and interest. I often have trouble viewing where something is out of focus in the foreground, esp. since it is a shriveled bloom and lighter in color, too. I often pinch these off before taking the picture. I also feel that one of the large purple buds is quite soft. So maybe a candidate for focus stacking since I see you were at f25? |

Great clarity and strong colors give this striking impact. I noted that your flash was on the camera, and would suggest a diffuser? The highlights are strong from the flash. You have some nice shadows, though, so I think just moving the angle and strength of the light? |

Hmmm. Very disparate elements and I can't get a sense of any cohesiveness to know where I should be looking. That, combined with a bit of softness on the hair and the cable, plus the spots on the blue background and a piece of something on the aspirin, make it very difficult for me as a viewer. This will appeal to a very specific type of viewer, I think? |

Num num, the colors are fun and inviting, and make me feel like I want to wade right in! I can't tell if it's my screen, but I feel a couple of the candies are out of focus in prominent areas. But the colors and texture work well in this. |

Sharp, with great pattern, texture and color. The balance between darks and lights works well for this, too. |
