I love this shot!!! The birds are tack sharp, the composition is wonderful, and the expressions make it seem like a Saturday Night Evening Post illustration (I know, that ages me, right?). The colors are so pleasing; honestly, there is nothing to do to improve this....it's a terrific, very fun and technically perfect shot!! |

What a difficult capture! Your composition enhances the focus on the butterfly, and your clarity is enviable for something flying toward you! I think the lens is the real difficulty here. I have tried it all as part of the macro group, and trying to capture this tiny moving thing when it is up close to you like that? Hmmm. Too hard to get a good focus with such a long lens. Try using a macro lens with an aperture setting like f11 or above. |

The colors alone are enough to make this a very dramatic image, and when you add in the interesting twirls and swirls, I find it to be a very good capture of this flower...and then I see the bee!! It is such a perfect addition that I'd like to see the lighting raised on it so that it stands out more against the flower. The bee is lost, but I believe it can be emphasized more. |

The lighting on this bird is very pleasing. The (apparent) story behind this also makes for an interesting image! Raising the shadows of the mouth and maybe adding some vibrance on just the bird? The only other thing is that it appears to be screaming over whatever find is sitting in front of it. Is there a way to crop just below that object to bring it back into the picture? Fun shot!! |

This is a lovely image with great impact! The flower is beautifully sharp; the composition works so well for this. I might try cropping a bit off the left to balance it out. As for the face, it is a bit soft and lacking a bit of clarity--maybe lighten those shadows and try sharpening it in Photoshop with that high pass method, then reducing the opacity slightly, then masking it to just the soft areas? I think the image is worth working it, even if it can't be used for competition. |

Interesting in that this image is so different from your normal style. The crop works well, as does the color combinations. Your capture of the bird is sharp, and has great balance and clarity. I seem sometimes to be one of the only people who like to show animals in their camoflagued environment, which means a sacrifice to contrast from the background. I agree, though, that it is part of the story. Maybe there is something you can do to pull it apart slightly from that background? Not blurring the background, but maybe additional exposure just around the bird? Other than that, I am a viewer who prefers more blue, less warmth, and this is very warm. On my second view, I liked the warmth better, but his head feels a little too warm, esp. against the yellows of the background? My 2 cents. |

Denise, this is another impressive flower shot. I love this technique you have developed!! It's a winner! Technically, you nailed it. I might suggest that you brush in, very concisely and very lightly, some reduced highlights on the yellows, to bring up more detail and minimize the hotness, but even without it, I think its a great shot!!! |

What a beauty! The crop, composition and white balance all feel perfect to me. The main subject is sharp, but I would maybe suggest in LR that you do the masking on sharpness so that only the lines of the caterpillar are sharpened a bit more? Great image! |

The clarity gives this strong impact, along with the black background. I almost think you could crop out that upper bud, while leaving the beautiful length of the main subject. I feel it would give strength to your bursting bud's simplicity. I actually do like the composition you selected, with it slightly off-center, but might like to see a vertical, closer crop instead. Nice work on the focus of your main subject!

Interesting perspective, shot from the top. You did get his eyes, including a little catchlight in each! Did you consider a tighter crop on this? The little bit of darker green on the bottom side is distracting for me as a viewer. You have enough leaf in front of the bug to balance out any crop, I feel?

The sharpness of the subject, along with the complimentary colors, really make this image pop. And you caught a catchlight in his little eye! I would raise the overall white point or exposure a little, as it feels dark on my screen overall, but otherwise, its a great macro shot! Well done! |
