Actually, if you go, you want to buy the Photographer's pass; its a wee bit expensive, but makes a world of difference in what you will be able to photograph. The crowds are unbelievable, so they take about 10 people at a time, clear out the mass crowds for about 5 minutes or so per chamber or stop, and set up stuff like this sand cascading down. |

Lisa, I went back to the remake, and you are right that it feels over processed when enlarged. So I think if you take the suggestions as to vibrance and use a different crop, you will nail it. |

Thanks, all. I actually have this print in my bedroom, so look at it often. And yes, the sand has bothered me. So knowing how to fix it is very helpful! Thank you for the specific steps, Tom! |

OMG! I really love this! The capture of all the lightening is fantastic, along with the slow motion of the water. It gives me a feeling of standing right at the edge of the storm. The clouds, the clarity, the pier--all great and lending right to the overall image and story. But....the bird? I don't see it, and I have looked closely. I've been trying to make my comments BEFORE reading everyone else's. Okay, so now I see that there is no bird...whew! Thought I was losing my eyesight! I will leave lightening triggers to folks like you...I was so happy to leave all that behind. |

Oh, I like this monochrome treatment. It is very abstract but I still found it captivating. Yes, I like the color image for all the artistry in the blending colors. In the monochrome image, I like the bark framing the actual subject. And I actually like your monochrome crop better than the suggested remake crop. Again, it is all so subjective, but I definitely like what you've done with this image, technically and artistically. |

Very pretty, and the impact is created by the elimination of all extraneous subjects. I love this. Couple of blurry flowers which distract in the lower right-hand corner and far left, which I saw on a second viewing. Having the taller stems and then the lower level stems really works for this, and the color combination is very, very pleasing. Good image! |

Great shot, definitely better on the second. In the first, the background felt "separated" from the bird and branch--maybe too saturated in the sky, maybe too sharpened on bird's and branch edges. My screen showed weird artifacts around the bird's beak and the part of the branch you removed. It's a lovely capture, and a good composition, so definitely a great image. |

A strong image that pulls me forward with the cloud direction and the multiple layers in the landscape, bravo. The black in the clouds on the first remake feels overpowering for the image, to me. However, I like the extra clarity on the canyon. I like the second remake better, but not better than what you have originally done. I think we as photographers can actually take our landscapes beyond what is good and natural. I think your image is competition worthy as it was, but again, subjective opinion of one person. |

Lisa, this is a nicely composed image, with some wonderful landscape elements in it. The combination of the spring flowers and the fall colors of the trees causes a little disparity for me emotionally, that I can't explain. Technically, I think the flowers have great "pop," but the tree colors are somewhat flat, so maybe adding some vibrance to the leaves so they can compete more against the flowers. The flatness makes me feel they are waning, but they actually aren't--they are at peak. Maybe that is the dissonance I feel. Sharon's remake is good; I think the crop and the vibrance are what it needs to go from an interesting image to a great landscape image. Don't know if my comments are helpful or not.

The vibrancy of this image is incredible, along with the sharpness and clarity in all the right places. Without seeing the original but reading that you cropped it, was it possible to crop in a portrait perspective so that the butterfly has a little more space in front of his antennas? That would minimize the focus on the flowers which, while they look great, compete against your skipper. Great job on the eyes! |
