Again, Mike's version has really enhanced an already-beautiful shot. I will have to try that on something--the soft background is gorgeous and really places the emphasis entirely on Judith's bird! |

Mike's changes really made the difference....it was really a great shot and just needed a bit of tweaking. |

Yes, I see what you are talking about, Mike. And also, darkening the corners, Sharon. Thank you all for your excellent and most helpful input. I shot in f22 out of habit and because I didn't know any better!! So even input as simple as that is helpful to me!

I actually did not see the bird at first, but loved the image from first sight! It seems to be more about the sunrise and the water for me. The tree touching so much of the clouds is a bit distracting for me as a viewer, but you know, you can't always create your position to perfection. What would happen is you opened the shadows a bit for your bird and tree just where it rests against the cloud? I really do like this image though! |

Your robin really pops against that white background and makes me feel that I'm out in nature in the winter. He's nicely framed and you've caught the texture, the peacefulness, and perfect sharpness throughout the important parts while maintaining a very soft, pleasing background that blends in thoroughly. Did you try any different crops? I think the V of those branches are perfect leading lines to your bird, and I don't want to see any of the branches cropped, but it would be interested to have your bird fill more of the frame. Great shot! |

Whoa!! At first I was trying to figure out what the heck he was eating!! I would like to see the eyes and forehead area of the chick lightened to bring it out from the background. The sky color is a very intense and thick-feeling blue, so my eye really went to the adult bird first and foremost. Lightening the chick with the eye would give it some balance in subjects. What a gorgeous catch!!!! Beautifully done! |

You definitely caught the moment, John. You've allowed plenty of room for the bird to fly inside the frame, and you've definitely got it very sharply focused, water, fish and all!! My only suggestion would be to do something to separate the bird out more from the water--they are so similar in tone that it detracts from what is a fine shot! |

Dandelions are such beautiful subjects, and yours is very sharp, very nicely white balanced, and with perfect color balance overall. I would like to see a change in perspective tried...and I didn't feel that the empty bud to the left added to the story, so would suggest its removal, esp. since it is infringing on the main subject. That second image has much more pop and brightness, which I felt was needed. But your capture is great--focus can be so hard on these!! |

I know from viewing these rookery nests that this is a very accurate image, and technically very, very well done! Also, to have caught the eyes of three of the four subjects gives it great impact. The composition works well, and the background depth of field is very pleasing. Personally, I am not bothered by the leaves in the foreground, as it makes me feel I'm peeking into an intimate family setting of this nest. Great job! |

You have definitely caught the shimmer of light in this tulip without blowing out highlights. I like the crop and the way you have placed all the emphasis on the one slice of flower by your use of the light. Its very sharp without being overdone, and the texture can almost be felt! Very, very nice shot! |

What a fun plant! Your capture of the details is perfect--nice and sharp! I also find the way you have positioned this against a dark background to emphasize the twirls and swirls quite nicely! I notice you said you reduced the white balance...I was thinking it would pop more if you warmed it up a bit? Or maybe not....maybe use Levels to bring up those lighter tones? Or increase the White Point just to bring out the whites from the background a little more. |

You have captured a flower that I always find lacks something when I photograph it!! And you've done it beautifully! There isn't anything I would change about this image. I love the softness, while you've retained sharp details and texture. I also feel the shadows give it wonderful depth. Super job! |

This is a terrific shot, Bill! Looks like all of your settings coordinated well. There is a little bit of softness from hand-holding, and the only way to get away from that would be to raise the shutter speed even more. But the coordinating colors, the beautiful DOF, and the overall sharpness really counters that softness on the bug. Great job!!

Thanks, Lou! I don't generally watermark my images for uploading to PSA dialogues, but it was done accidentally on this one. If I remove that small tip, will it look out of balance to you? Or better for being less distracting?
I think you're right about balance; leave the small tip on bottom right. |
