As always, I appreciate the comments and observations. Picture Lake is in my backyard....about 1 hour outside of Bellingham, just below Mt. Baker and the much photographed Artists Point. I love going at any time of day, any season--it never looks the same twice. |

I think I would use a brush in lightroom, and using very minor increments, brush over the legs, then a slight adjustment to either shadows or exposure, then repeat to taste.

OMG!!! GREAT IMAGE!! Yes, I'm shouting. It puts me in mind of those cartoons where the animal is backpedaling as it spots danger lurking right in front of it. The expression and pose on the bird along with the look of that trunk like its an alligator makes a perfect composition! There isn't a thing I would change about this image, truly. The sharpness is right where it needs to be; my eye immediately captured the scene in its entirety. Fantastic capture!! |

Judith, the eye truly gives great impact, due to the shape of the reflection of it. The question of removing small imperfections is always difficult, but I do find the various specks on the water a major distraction. The water is so smooth and thick-looking, that I agree that they should be removed (except for that bubble on the right). This will emphasize your great capture of the frog better. My only other suggestion is that you do a subtle brightening of the shadows on his legs. It must be very slight so as not to be too obvious, but I think I might try it just to compare?? |

Oh, sweet!! Tack sharp, great action, perfect crop, all of this and more lends itself to a wonderful nature image! I love the texture in the heads! I don't see a color "cast," but I do see some subtle magenta, which works well in my opinion. Without it, the image would feel too monochrome. These birds do have subtle color in areas. You captured this so well! |

The subject being the light striking that small area is immediately apparent in your capture. From your original to the final image, you have done a beautiful job of bringing out the detail of that area, with wonderful true colors. I would like to see what happens if you take off some of the left side, where that second tree trunk is, maybe putting more emphasis on your subject and removing a tree that doesn't lend anything extra to the image for me? But I would leave the lighted area as is, for sure. |

Herons in flight always capture my heart. And you have caught it nicely. I also am impressed that you were able to add canvas without any telltale signs of it! Great job, Lisa!!

One reason I left the front grasses in, was for a leading line. I felt that if I cropped it, we had a line of green plants that lead the viewers eye out toward the sides. My subject is actually the mountain and snowy banks, as I couldn't get much of the lake. |

This image is beautiful, Sharon. There's instant a thing I would change about it. The subtle vignette, along with a perfect capture of his features, makes this a winner for me. I do think if you just HAD to change something, you could make the trees behind his head lighter, so give more contrast between his head and the background, but i actually like the foreground dry grass just as it is, no darker. It is a complement to the animal. |

This immediately appealed to me...a combination of a beautiful tonal range, sharpness in the details, a soothing crop that brings out all those lovely curves and textures. I would love to see you enter this in a contest....it's a beautiful shot, technically and aesthetically pleasing to my eyes! |

We don't often stray from our flowers, leaves and bugs, do we? But you have, and I really enjoyed the sharply detailed coin set against a perfectly solid black background. No weird highlights, either, so the lighting feels very good to me. I like it, and wouldn't do anything differently. |

The stamen (?) and Pistals (?) feel like they are floating...and they also feel crystal clear, with great contrast between the background of the flower and the front plane. I like that you have the petal on the left side in focus, too; it just feels right to me. The crop lends itself well to the image, but I must admit that I can't tell where the black ended, so I assumed it left just a bit of space to the right of the image. Not too crowded feeling for me; just right. And a lush red besides! Good job! |

The clarity and sharpness, the shadows and highlights, and the perfect saturation and exposure all work well for this image. I also really find the crop to give it more impact, focusing my eye right on the little guy's very crisp eyeball. I note that you took it through glass, which presents its own challenges. I think this is a great image, Ginger! With a very appropos title! |

Interesting capture! The contrast of the color difference between the bugs and the leaf works well for this image. Feels like something one might see in a Science Journal. Good detail in the bugs, and the composition for the subject matter feels right to me as a viewer. Kudos for getting a shot you wanted! |
