Sometimes you have to make a choice between perfection and getting any shot at all. I like your image, but would like to see more of the original background--the cropping feels too tight to me as a viewer. And the softness would have been overcome with a higher shutter speed. If this was handheld, you have to keep the speed above the focal length of your lens to avoid the softness. I do like the original crop aspect and orientation, just pulled in a bit tighter, then with add'l contrast. Maybe use layers and High Pass with an Overlay blending mode in Photoshop to sharpen the butterfly only? Cool capture!!

Yes, that remake is very much better. Great image! My only other quick comment is that the single blade of grass in front of his mouth also bothered me a bit. But your framing of him with the purple flowers is beautiful! He is nice and clear, looking straight into the camera. What a cutie! Didn't know they are so mean.

Thank you. Your comments are always very helpful to me. I agree that the closer crop and eliminating the white is a huge help. I struggle with the darker vignettes for some reason. They make the whole image feel darker to me, no matter how I adjust it or what I do to compensate in the middle of the image. |

This is magnificent for its clarity and color/white balance. My only suggestion is that the crop of the limbs is uncomfortable to me as a viewer. Your tonal range feels good as does the separation of subject from background. |

I love the composition...these canyons are stunning and your colors feel true. I also feel your capture of lights and shadows really shows it at its best. Wonderful image! |

You did a great job, Lisa, and the detail as well as the shadows v highlights give it a nice depth and texture. The right side wingtip feels a little dark...maybe more shadow detail or contrast between wing and leaf in that one area? |

I like the image, Sharon: the sense of motion and the simplicity. I felt like I wanted to see more room before the subject as it appears to be moving rapidly and it felt to me like a runway that is a tad too short. Other than that, I wouldn't change a thing; it's a beautiful image. |

I like the remake. White vignettes are tough but I find images feel too dark for me when dark vignettes are added--I lighten the center area and eventually just remove the vignette! Thanks for the input😒 |

Beautiful shot! My favorite part is the eye~it is captivating, very clear and tack sharp. The only suggestion I would have is that it looks almost over-sharpened on some of the bird, esp. his beak. If you look closely, you can see the artifacts that have appeared in the outlines of the beak and other places during the sharpening. The sharpening may also have sharpened the grain in the background. Other than that, a really interesting image! |

This is a very cool image, Bill! I love the colors popping against the dark background. It has a very artistic feel to it. Your catch of the light striking from the top is spot-on. Great image! |

Beautiful capture! The sharpness and slight motion of the wings really lends itself to the feeling of the bee in flight, along with the bit of pollen clinging to its feet. I would like to see a bit more light on the subject (bee) to bring it out from the background, but the difference in colors does work well in your image. I see that there is a re-crop, and I like what was done there (it appears it eliminated one stray piece of stem). My only other suggestion is to minimize the grain if possible. Great shot, though!
