28 Feb 26 Comment I love kids and they make great subjects! As in acting, it's hard to act with your back to the audience. Being able to see the eyes would help tell their story of the off camera action. Feb 15th
28 Feb 26 Comment Hey Pacific NW neighbor :)
My eyes go immediately to the hands which tell most of the story to me. The characters on the page are fascinating and the old printer in me wonders about how the book was made.
My eyes struggle a little bit trying to find the focal point, usually the brightest area but in this case I think the hands win out with the best focus. Well done! Did you do much to refine the image?

28 Feb 26 Reply Hey Firdaus, thanks for your feedback! I didn't do much to these images of the Tarn. The biggest impact was sharpening with Topaz.
I shoot in RAW and use Lightroom for initial global tonal adjustments and then take things to PS where I will sometimes crop, dodge/burn, selectively adjust and sharpen. I reduced the saturation by -12 overall which is something I find myself doing a lot, especially for prints.

28 Feb 26 Comment This feels so serene to me, Deb! Trains always have a kind of nostalgia and that resonates with fall. Gotta love the S curves of life, right? That's my kind of country you've got there. A lot different country than the photos of Hyderabad I was just looking at. :)
Wonder if a polarization filter would have taken the reflection off the river? At first I thought it was gravel instead of the water.
Thanks for showing us Alberta!

28 Feb 26 Comment Immediately pulled in, Firdaus. Nicely framed, the bright clothing and jewelry hints at a great story, but it is the face I linger on the most. The toe rings are amazing!
Was it existing light?

28 Feb 26 Comment Nice, Steve! I so seldom do still life images. It makes me want to see the color of the tea, then to smell it and taste it.
The texture of the tray liner is cool and I'm glad you brought that out from the original. I also noticed how you decluttered on the right which makes it stronger. Wish I could do that with some photos for the PSA exhibitions.
Are the large metal cups for drinking with or is it served in something else?

96 Feb 26 Comment I kind of like your grainy version, Robert. It's kinda painterly. I used Topaz sharpen (natural setting) and denoise and that made a noticeable difference while keeping it more photographic. Feb 25th
96 Feb 26 Reply Thanks, Robert! Really helpful feedback, I appreciate it.
Yes, I do tend to be too dark sometimes. Even the brighter exposed images still had the rocks as silhouettes.
I think you are right on with it lacking a strong focal point. I'm working on compositional skills but there is where I often find things lacking. I was on to the same idea with cropping but just didn't take it far enough. Lightning up the water and the smaller crop really pulls my eye there now and I like it much more.
The attached is the original raw image without any crop and only some minimal LR edits for tonality, it was super dark.

96 Feb 26 Comment Thanks for the response. Good question! I was looking to blur the water a. It without adding an ND filter. Feb 20th
96 Feb 26 Comment Yellowstone is on my list, Bruce. I haven't been there since I was a kid in the 60's but I remember the bears in the campground at night raiding garbage. Nice clear shot, simple and clean and safely distant with 280mm.
I also shot many pictures with a Minolta SRT-101 that you mentioned in your bio. But the darkroom was fun for me. ;)

96 Feb 26 Comment I like the impulse behind this photo, Kenneth… lone dwelling on endless plains. The Powershot G9 was my first digital camera back in 2008!
Golden hour would have helped this (like most photos). While not a cure, Topaz sharpening has been an invaluable tool in the kit for me.

96 Feb 26 Comment That's a lovely shot, Rick! I didn't catch the mirror imaging right off until I read your comments. You guys are very playful. ;)
My eye naturally goes to that vertical axis. The hill in the background is curious to me as I want to figure out the details in it. I am guessing fall foliage?

96 Feb 26 Comment I like the idea and the willingness to experiment, Robert! I love patterns, textures and abstract designs. I did get a sense of storm clouds with the title hinting at it. I wouldn't have caught the upside down aspect though. Feb 15th
96 Feb 26 Comment Makes me want to go there, Pinaki! A national park where land is being created instead of worn away. Hard to get a sense of scale. I assume it was taken at night to capture that rich warm glow? Feb 15th
