67 Dec 25 Reply Thanks David! This was basically the only angle to get its face and beak without going off the trail (which I will not do) so I am glad I could get it. Dec 24th
67 Dec 25 Reply Thank you Cindy! I appreciate your input on the crop! I decided to embrace winter this year so I am pushing myself to go out in conditions I would normally hide under a blanket. The photos have been rewarding! Dec 24th
67 Dec 25 Reply Going from night sky to bird photography was a major change for this year! My camera has never worked this fast before. I think this image is a good lesson for me to simplify my shots and narrow my focus. Thank you for pointing out what you consider were the main points of interest! I struggled with the cropping of this image so I appreciate everyone's input on the crop.

I have never submitted a photo for any sort of competition so I am not too concerned about rules at this point in my development. I am just trying to create stronger images that I love and hopefully others will enjoy.

67 Dec 25 Reply Thank you for the input! Appreciate it! Dec 24th
67 Dec 25 Reply Thank you! I didn't love the bare branches, but liked having the falling snow in the image. I really struggled to know how to crop this image! Dec 24th
67 Dec 25 Comment What an interesting shot! I really like the colors and textures! I think everyone else gave some nice suggestions to consider. I wouldn't suggest anything different. And if you didn't change anything with this image, I think is a great image as is! Dec 24th
67 Dec 25 Comment What a beautiful hummingbird! I think you did a great job processing the image and making the bird pop.

Now my opinion on cropping the image might be a little different than others, but I would keep in mind that I am very new to bird photography so this is just my personal preference and have no clue if it is right or wrong. I actually would crop to include more of the leaves on the bottom left. The leaves and sticks seem to be pointing towards the bird and I don't mind them. I used your original image to do a crop I would suggest - I thought about trying to copy what you did for post processing to have the image look like your final image, but I did not. With this slight change in crop, it will place the bird more in the center of the image with the plants and sticks below it almost pointing up to it.

67 Dec 25 Comment The title was all I needed to explain this photo because the female has such an expressive look on her little face. I think the amount of space you left around the birds feels right to me. I think this is a great image and I have no suggestions. I wouldn't change a thing. I have never entered a competition so I have no idea what judges want, but you are right - their loss! Dec 24th
67 Dec 25 Comment Wow! What a great image! This is an image that inspires me to keep working at my bird photography! In your crop, I think it was great that you kept the little plants on the left and right. They provide a little glimpse into the environment, balance the photo, and do not take away from the main subject. I think Butch has some good suggestions. The brightness in the background in the top right corner draws my eyes up there. A slightly tighter crop and a maybe a vignette in that corner should help keep my eye on this incredible bird. Overall, I would not change much about this image. Excellent shot! Dec 24th
67 Dec 25 Comment Scott - you did a great job with processing to make the bird pop without feeling over processed. Great work! I like that you decided to crop because in the original image there was a little wave that would have caught my eye in the bottom right corner. I am undecided about cropping in slightly more, like others suggested. I really like the subtle waves around the rock the bird is standing on and I wouldn't want to lose those. However, the water above the bird's head doesn't feel like it is adding too much to me. Because I am undecided, I would pick how you cropped it! Dec 24th
