This is one of those pictures that are impressive for the conditions it shows and your control of the light is very strong. But the impact is always going to be yours as your felt and breath this moment and this image will remind you of that time. It looks cold. |

This image does show off two things to me, one how well they carve out an existence on the side of a mountain and second how a bit of colour can lift the neighborhood. We live in such boring same looking houses that seeing something like this makes you think, what if? But then you know if you did the council will come along and tell you to change it as it does not sit with the towns views. But here you will have to get on with the people next door. Do think you have pushed the sky a touch to far as you are loosing the menace it poses. Great social image. |

This is a lovely moment in time and a well spotted image, the muted colours and subtle lighting works well with the scene. One small thing for me is the tree being so tight to the right edge, having a small gap there would improve the balance for me. |

I can remember when I was a child that most of the major Seaside town you went to had one of this long piers with all these wonderful adventures at the bottom of them, now in the UK I think there are now two with Blackpool being the main event. Sad really if you think about it, but they raked all the money in from the public but forgot to put it back into the upkeep of the piers.
You have captured the colour well and with the buildings in the backfround show how the pier sits in with the city. For me I would like to see the image from the top of the pier up lowered half a stop as it does come over very bright. The detail and colours of the pier are very nice and you have done well with hand held. Ge=reat colours. |

I love the relationship between the lady and the Empress that works so well for me and is what this image is about, but I was always bought up with the rule that if you are going to use a post in the image, make sure it is part of the image and one edge does not allow the viewer to escape. It took me a while in my young years and film to understand this. But I got it in the end. If you put a pole in a image with a negative side but have a gap the viewers eye will have the option to travel that way even though the image is the opposite side. So judges frown on it.
Fran has solved all this with a nice crop and I think this then makes for a very strong street image. |

What a great idea for an image, pattern v nature, the water droplets add to the image, I do get the feeling that the image is fighting the sunlight and your setting of 1/5000 sought of confirms this, a more subtle light may suit this image so more of the tones of the leaves come our and the shadows come into play. But a fabulous idea that a few of us may be trying. |

Having watched a few video on the Origan Coast Photo trip with Nick Page and others it is on my bucket list if ever I visited the USA. The is a nice subtle image for this coast with a nice gentle feel to it when we know how rough it can get down there. The other's have highlighted the two main problems, so I will highlight you best thing. Your tonal range it outstanding and the balance of light is well handled. The halo's is easy to handle be watching for them to appear in your processing, when they appear, in history go back your last moves and do it again 10 to 20% leas powerful.
One thing I would have done is taken a step or two to the left so that rock was not clipping the edge of the frame.
Great image that makes me want to visit. |

First of all this is a great shot of a catus, need to be a print A3 or larger so you can appreciate the detail you have captured. Well done.
The PSA is about debate and discussion and when it comes to the background on this occasion it think you are wrong. Kathryn has done a lovely job to show us if you tone down the background and if you place both side by side one thing hits you in the face, the cactus becomes very sterile in the tones down one, but in the original image it belongs and with all the backlighting holds it own and stand out enough from the rest so they are not effecting the viewers enjoyment, but in a way enhances it by added to how it sits in the environment. Yes do the background if you want a specimen, but don't if you want an image.
That light is magic. |
