Just lovely! New title. If you have moved a foot any direction this image would not work, but your framing is so perfect that it is "Just Lovely".
The lovely is the placement of the head of the fall just in the nape of the branch. This makes the rest just sit perfect. The colours and light are then magic and a joy to see and you wish you were there. Thank you.
One thing I may consider is just lowing the brightness of the bottom right corner. |

I look at this image and cannot get past one thing, you have Superman with you, you carry big camera bags/back packs on your back, but to carry a child that size on your front all the way to the top is superman territory. He must be so fit and have a spine of iron.
That does look an amazing place to be and you were treated to a great sky, I would try with mask and curves to increase the detail just a touch in the shadows. This fencing is very intriguing, how old is it and who built it? Must have been a great day.

Well that is being in the right place at the right time but scared off all the animals you have come to see. Some nice colours and pin sharp in the image. Agree a touch of curves or levels work to give it a touch more tonality would be nice.
They must have to be so careful as that grass only needs a spark and it gone up. Hope the trip was all it was meant to be. |

This is a striking central style image with a great lead to the prize at the end. The bright on the canal and the sky balance each other and the lead is good. The ducks have been nice to you and all separated and in nice spots.
If this was mine, I would work on this and find the luminosity mask that holds the trees and brighten them a touch, I would then find one for the road and darken that and then vignette to centre the viewers eyes more. But good monochrome. |

They do have a striking pose and stand out nicely in the sunlight. The colours are well rendered and it is nice they have taken pride in their cranes and the painting of.
I do like how the 5th one seems to have fallen out with the other four, the ship fits nicely into the image, but I have to agree that more room on the left would allow the image and viewer to breath. It does leave me with questions as it seems very narrow for ships this size and more scale would have left this question answered. Nice image. |

I quite like the colour version and thought it just needed a touch of work, I found you monochrome version for me was very closed with the darks and blacks filing in.
So I went back to your colour version, took it to photoshop and opened the shadows with luminosity musts and balanced the blue background. Then took through to silver efex and process with slight brightening in highlights and was pleased with the results. Did a light smart sharpen and then ran through define to finish. |

We have a saying over here "Hiding to nothing" It means you have no chance, all of these set-ups at shows or events are set in such a way that all cameras will get a shot, that means they are over exposed and unbalanced. The model never poses properly and has more than likely been going for about hour so is tied and a bit of a mess. "Hiding to Nothing"
So, you have done well to get what you have got, but as you can see before you start you are fighting a losing battle. But the temptation is there, and you have to have a go.
I must admit the first time I went to the camera show at the NEC I shot all the set-up's on offer and even put one in a club comp. Put them all in the bin after the judge ripped into me.
For me you are losing the model into the background, and I hate the pose and none of this is your fault. |

This is my bar humbug image; I so hate Halloween. Have done since I was a child.
Must say though you iPhone has come up trumps again and shown our DSLR up again, it has handled the light and dark very well and the detail is very good. Love the glow in the tree, shame it is all ghosts.

Fran, you have a very strong image here as you can see from the many comments and discussions. You have an image of two halves, the rigidity of humans to the beauty of nature and how the two don't mix well. The harsh lines of the foreground do clash with the softness of the receding mountains. You have done exceptional well to combine both into a very strong monochrome with lots of tones and lines to look at. Yes, you could crop the foreground away and you would have a world class landscape, (I would do that just for competitions it is that good,)
I don't think the clouds need brightening, but they are perfect for the image.
That mountain range and the condition you have is a photographer dream with the affects you were getting. I do hope you took more and tried a long lens.
This is very strong monochrome and one to be proud of. |

What a lovely capture of the cranes in full flight, the detail is quite striking, and this does show off the formation they use. Even the two-tail end charlie's are there who are always just offline.
But I must say I like the mono image but love the coloured image. They really stand out against that blue and you see even more detail in the cranes. Great image. |
