What holds this image together is the opposing angles of the bridge and the rooflines and then you have the third line being bought in by the pillar. The people then add a break to these lines. I quite like the softness and texture of the image, sort of works. |

When they flower I will be out there with the camera, I like the idea of your image but I do find your image a touch busy, but I do like Bob's crop with is very simple and has a nice fill to it and the like is not affecting the image so much. |

What you have written is very sad to hear and it happens in lots of places through the world too often now, but I don't get that from your image I am afraid, it's also a shame you cut the top of the tree off. Do agree a lower angle would have made it more dramatic. |

This does have an impact, full of colour and the lines in the water lead nicely to the buildings. I like the amount of motion you have on the water, but I am amazed how still the clouds are at 13s.
Did you have a slight movement of the tripod while taking the image as the buildings don't seem to be crisp as they could be. But the very strong and striking image and I am also fascinated of what those green circles are. |

This must have been so much fun, so worth the cold weather. Well done. |

This must have been a wonderful half an hour to spend as this looks a beautiful place to be. The composition is very good and the reflection is very nice.
But I do think your darks are a touch heavy and filling in in places and wonder if you could pull more out of the raw or with luminosity mask. But with this amount of contrast it may have paid to take a set of four or five images for the differences in light and use the Lightroom combines raw file function to make one large raw file with more depth. Think the result would have been magic. |

I do think you have captured a moment in time and the light rays do very well, but I am sorry the image as a whole does not do anything for me as it does not have much of interest. Sorry. |

That does look like a well-used engine with all that pitting on the metal, The steam does add to the image, for me I would crop the top to just above the tap as it forms a good triangle with the two pivot points and loses the wording as it draws the eye. Must have been impressive to have seen live. |

I like the simplicity of this and the angles of the lines which overall give a great contrast. But I do think she looks a bit misshapen and could have been posed better to complement the lines. Nice looking lass though. |

This is a photographer picture and has been composed well and I love it, but if you have a spare torpedo and could sink that ship this image would be real magic feel.

You have done very well catching the moment in time, the detail in the wing is spot on and you can count every feather. I would like a touch more space as I find the image a touch cramped, may give the bird room to move into. The water droplets holding the corner works.
I envy anyone who catches birds in flight, I can catch bikes flying past me at 200 mph but never get birds. So well done. |

I focus on the dead centre of the plant so I would not get caught by that central spire rising, the bottom left is the leaf rising fast towards the camera and the angle of the camera and the shallow DOF. |

Paul from 39. Stopped to comment on Paul Smiths image and saw this.
What a beautiful tranquil image with wonderful colour and light control, one of those images that will print well large on Aluminium. Darcy, I disagree that the parts of the kelp that in the water are soft enough to hold the image but the parts that are out of the water and would not be affected should be sharp.
One for the best album. |

Hi Paul
Thank you for your comment on my image in 39. Firstly never apologise for entering a monochrome image, monochrome is a great image with the distraction of colour removed so you see the image itself.
What you have taken has been taken well, you could work a small touch on the tones just to get a little more depth in the throngs, but holding the reflections in those throngs is very good.
One thing that is very useful for people to comment on your images is the camera, lens and detail settings. Looking at this you could be at about f9.5 to f11 where I think a setting of f4.5 to f5.4 would more suit and that back Aloa would be less dominate, you can do this in PS quite easily but is better in camera.
The one big problem I have, you seem to be in two minds, do I take a specimen shot or a record shot, a record shot you needed to include the whole plant, for a specimen you could have got slightly closer and changed your angle slightly and played with those great reflections.
But your ability to take the image is spot on.
Reading your notes I am taking it that you are fairly new to these groups. Can I just say, titles just say what it is, Aloa at Phoenix Botanical garden, Keep a copy of every entry you entre in a separate folder with the right title so in a couple of years you don't duplicate.
Start your notes with your camera, lens and settings so the commentators know what, how, where and why you took the image.
Hope that helps a little and keep up the great work.
Paul
