Images are scored from a 9-15. This one did get a 15 which is always thrilling. My wife hates the judging process because its arbitrary and different judges will score the same image differently (even though she has never submitted an image), but I personally love it even if I don't always agree with the comments or score. If I am honest with myself though, usually a low score I disagree with is a mediocre image that I think should be a 12 or 13 and they scored it lower than that. Its hard to get those 14 and 15's, but the images that do I know are ones that will do well. Now I just need to figure out how to take more of them! |

Would love to join that group as well. Birds are my main focus these days. |

I had never heard of Richter, but they produced some very interesting art. Looking at your image I'm surprised there is not a cat laying in the patch of sunlight, but that's probably because we have two rescue kitties that live with us and I only see patches of sun like this with a cat in the middle of them :) I struggle with judging and commenting on creative photographs like this, but for me this feels like a study in light and the lack of sharpness really works with the sunlight to give a dreamy effect. I may have pushed the warmth a bit, and wonder what that would look like.

Unlike the fish, I am a big fan of this, but I also love to watch herons hunt. Especially our green herons. The background of the image really compliments the bird and the lighting is gorgeous. Well done. |

I love a good raptor photograph! I have a couple who are licensed falconers that visits my bird banding(ringing) station. They hunt with Red Tailed Hawks and Perrigin Falcons. It is amazing to watch them hunt and bring down other birds or small animals.
I might take the opposite direction from Roy's crop and remove more of the bottom of the image. I do like how it has some room on the left though and would try to keep some of that in the final crop. |

I love the drama in the image. It definitely has impact! The one on the right looks like our Hairy Woodpecker, but I've never seen anything like the green one. |

Stunning image of a pair of beautiful birds. I agree with the crop and think Butch nailed it. Its not too tight and gives the flying bird some space, but its enough to pull your eye to the birds and away from the perch. |
