Vincent, I didn't know about this. Thank you. I like the square format a lot and always dreamt of a Hasselblad! I have been using my workhorse Canon 5DMk2 from 10 years and probably it is the comfort factor. |

Editing steps;
Square crop to harmonize. when shooting I placed the plant in the center to ensure good sharpness. I visualized that it will not be in the center of composition as only a square will be used leaving the most of either side out. The image was first processed in RAW, where the highlights scale was pushed to left to ensure they are not washed out. The blacks also were controlled so that they do not become muddy. Clarity slider was used slightly pushing it to the right to give it ample contrast. The Fx or effects tab was used to get in some vignetting. Then it was opened in Adobe photoshop. The easy conversion of direct black and white was used. The red and yellow were fine tuned to give it the right amount of contrast. Levels and curves combination was used to ensure the image had punch. The sky was slightly burnt using the burn tool with hardness zero but midtone 10%. These were the editing steps taken for the image. I am attaching the original capture, which I missed attaching when submitting to Dave. |

Very nice image Dave. I do agree that the tones are all not in. But definitely good potential for a striking image. I have never used luminosity mask or layers for my processing. Will try TK in future. Good light Dave. |

Thanks Paul. You are kind. Indeed it is a panel that will be printed. The subject is at a distance and untouched! I always have the challenge of avoiding foot prints as well as buggy tracks! Good light to you Paul. |

Thanks Larry. The white part you are indicating is the play of light and shadow. There is a fold in the dune at that position. The plant is approx 3 feet in height. Indeed the frame here was added just to give the look of how it would appear printed. But I agree for digital purposes it is not required. Good light to you Larry. |

Thank you Michael. I will post the original today eve after work along with the detail editing (please note it is not elaborative but just few standard steps that I take for most of these kind of images. It is my mistake I did not attach the original capture in my email to Dave. Good light to you Michael. |

Thank you Lance. You are correct. The image had a two pixel stroke followed by a four pixel darker stroke and very light grey frame. Note it is not white, but very close. I understand it would be apt to state off white rather than light grey. I agree with you. Sorry for my late response. As I work in the hospital it has been hectic and couldnt find time to check. Good light to you Lance. |
