39 Sep 25 Reply I like your crop and it also removes the light coming through the fence. Sep 30th

39 Sep 25 Reply Hi Mary Ann, thanks for the comments!
I use to use Silver Efex Pro in the Nik Collection (all the way back when Google owned the software!).
I don't know if there is much difference between Silver Efex and LR for a conversion anymore (it use to be that LR monochromes were -- sub optimal).
I try to keep the processing simple and LR does a good job for me and LR has improved its mono processing a lot recently (IMO). This keeps my processing simpler and reduces the subscription costs I have to pay.
I use LR for the majority of my processing and when I need to do any retouching I go to PS.
I find that LR is much better for me when I print an image.

39 Sep 25 Reply I will have to look for the grey under the left rock! Sep 19th
39 Sep 25 Reply I like the suggestion for a square crop. I don't normally think in a square and that is a good suggestion. Thanks! Sep 19th
39 Sep 25 Reply That is an interesting way to crop your image.
When I look at this photo with both crops it makes me really think about the subject. Is the subject the people giving the fish to the birds or is it the birds swimming around the people? I like your original crop better because it's a picture of a whole lot of birds trying to get fed. It is interesting how it crop can change the entire subject of the picture!

39 Sep 25 Reply I love the cropped version without the dark door to the left. Both versions are good! Sep 14th
39 Sep 25 Reply Thanks. You suggested a different way to look at the image and I may have to play around with the crop. I am use to cropping to a 4x5 and I left this image as shot.
When I came upon this subject (the moving water) I saw the rocks as an extra. When I saw there were three rocks I was thrilled. In my mind the moving water and the 3 rocks work together well but I will take a look as you suggested.
Thanks for the example.

39 Sep 25 Reply Thanks for your comments! I used Photoshop to remove several rocks in the bottom right corner. The image was shot mid day and overcast so the rocks had a strong amount of brightness.
The B&W conversion was done 100% in Lightroom. I darkened the image overall and painted some light in the moving water with the masking feature in LR.

39 Sep 25 Comment This is a nice way to look at the flowers from a different perspective!
The flowers all seemed to be very sharp and in focus.
When I look at the image, my eyes are drawn to the rows of lighting on the bottom, right. I'm not sure what they are. To me, the spots of light are a little distracting. I wonder what the image would look like if those spots of light were removed. Would that allow us to focus more on the flowers?
This is a very interesting image.

39 Sep 25 Comment This is a nice, sharp image of the two horses. A lot of detail.
I like that you have cropped out the sky. I wonder what the subject would look like with a little more of the mountain.
Nicely done image!

39 Sep 25 Comment I love all of the detail in this image! This is an excellent subject for a Monochrome print.
Since I am new to this group, I'm not sure if any quality is impacted because of the size restrictions of our entries. I mentioned this because the image looks a little soft.
I like allowing the lens distortion rather than trying to straighten the vertical lines.
The image has a good range of tones from black to white.
I really enjoy architectural subjects in monochrome!

39 Sep 25 Comment I am a sucker for long hallways and monochrome Prints! This one was very well done. Lots of detail in the carpet in the wallpaper, but that door draws your attention.
I am conflicted about whether or not I like the first door on the left. I wonder what a cropped image might look like without that door
This is a nice contrast to black-and-white image!

39 Sep 25 Comment I have never seen so many seagulls around a subject. When I first looked at the image, I thought there was a lot of Photoshop going on, but that's but that is clearly not the case.
The image has a lot going on with the birds and the people, I wonder if cropped in more on the people might allow us to focus on the people with fewer birds.
Very interesting image that I have never seen before!

39 Sep 25 Comment You are lucky to have a job that allows you to spend time also doing photographic work!
You do not see many butterfly pictures in monochrome. I find myself looking at both the butterfly and the purple plant to the right. I wonder how the image would look if it was cropped so that the purple plant did not pick up such a large amount of the image. I also wonder how the image would look if the purple plant was blurred more.
The butterfly itself comes across well as a black-and-white because the orange and black are so contrasty.
Nice treatment of an unusual black-and-white subject.
