49 Jan 24 Reply In that case, they are more interesting as a courageous young person than they were when I thought they were as a young woman. Jan 26th
49 Jan 24 Comment Josh, such a great environmental portrait. Your masking has enabled you to emphasize her open, relaxed face and allows us to establish a connection with this interesting young woman. I also like how that wide lens opening gave you such nice bokeh, even with a wide angle lens.
PS - Do you call her kiddo, even to her face? My father called me that, and I'm 70. He grew up in the the 1920's, when you had words like "kiddo" and "skidoo".

49 Jan 24 Reply You're right, that is my own addition. The statement you quote is preliminary, and will be further refined based on the feed back given by the open meeting and elsewhere. I could have accomplished the same effect in your image with very patient cloning, totally acceptable. Since your image was the only one used by generative fill in this case, there's no question of "Image Creation and Ownership". Jan 21st
49 Jan 24 Reply i attended the open meeting on proposed standards for AI at the Williamsburg PSA Festival this fall. The upshot: AI is banned in the "Reality" categories, i.e., Nature, Photojournalism, and Travel. In addition, images created 100% in AI are forbidden and if used in competition may result in a lifetime ban. AI as a retouching tool is acceptable in Open competitions. An important distinction is whether the prompt window is used to add content. In this case, it was not. Jan 20th
49 Jan 24 Comment There is an overall softness here, and the weathered texture of the walls suffers from the lack of sharpness. When I was there in 2008, tripods were allowed, and I used one for every shot I took. It was absolutely essential in the dim light. The composition is excellent and the balancing of the lamplight and the daylight is well done. Jan 19th
49 Jan 24 Reply Having been at Eastern State Penitentiary, I can tell you that it was indeed a prison cell. The occupant was Al Capone, who received certain privileges in gratitude for his concern for the financial well-being of some of the prison management. Jan 19th
49 Jan 24 Comment The most distracting elements in this photo are the spotlight reflections in the windshield. I removed them with generative fill in Photoshop 2024, and then I took down some of the glare on the fender area with a clone brush set to 40%. Jan 19th
49 Jan 24 Comment The image is great, and I agree with Josh's crop. The one thing that grabs me is the highlight on the foreground center. It almost looks like a little bit of light painting. My thought would be to extend the highlight up the ridge to the sunset by some judicious dodging. I exagerated it a bit in the comment image, by setting the strength to 50%. I think 30% would be more realistic. Jan 19th
49 Jan 24 Comment Love the mood, and the darkness, it gives you such an intimate feeling. If you ever get back to NY, try to find the Algonquin. It's a few blocks away from Grand Central, and it has an old clubby feeling, as well as a fantastic literary history Jan 19th
49 Jan 24 Reply The series that this is from is called "Big Bang". The blue sparkly bits represent the expanding dust cloud of matter. and the random wavy parts are supposed to represent the random energy released in the event. I wanted to have chaos, and this is chaos. Jan 19th
49 Jan 24 Comment I think I like the interplay of the two converging lines of curving lights, so I think I'd leave this composition alone, especially since they both lead us up into the image. Love the fireworks by the way. I especially like how the light trails still show against the sunset sky. Jan 19th
