Peggy, this is an excellently composed (and exposed) image! The time of day brings out thr rock texture well, and the the contrast between the black glass of the chapel and the concrete cross create a beautiful image. I don't know if I would crop out the greenery at the bottom, but I probably would darken it a little, to draw the viewer's eye back to the chapel. |

David, your class didn't just "try" to teach you how to take Milky way photos, because obviously you and they succeeded.I like your original submission, because you can make out the rocks in the shadow detail, and it gives a moonlit feeling which I think is part of the story. |

Love this one, Stephen. You'vee captured your man Dave with a great open face, someone you'd want to have a beer with.
For this reason the centered composition is a great choice, a rule properly broken. It also highlights Dave's interest in this picture, the car. Add to that the enormous range of detail on the walls, and you have a winning environmental portrait. Now, as a Yank, I have to ask what are the papers tucked under the driver's windshield wiper- Has Dave chosen to highlight his awesome collection of parking tickets? |

Let me start with what's great here: the sinuous line of the trunk, echoed by the shadow. Also, the backlit texture of the sand grains. But what's missing here is the texture of the trunk itself. There probably a ton of weathered detail that's been lost in the shadows. Since you're on the Chesapeake, you're probably facing east. Another two hours would have given you a haigh angle just past noon, that would give you great crosslighting on the trunk. Perhaps you could have joined your club members for lunch and stopped on the way home to give it another try.. Noy sayin', just sayin'. |
