Excellent sharpness and good subject. Maybe a vignette would solve some of the issues suggested by others. |

I think that the exposure, specifically in the shadows, could be opened up more. The added detail in the "well" inside the drop would be welcome. |

This image is fascinating and has good lighting, but the composition felt incomplete. At first I thought adding a little more at the top to include the cut-off stalks would be the solution, but Alan's cropping also solves the distraction of the blown-out top. |

As a recent resident of the DC area, I am familiar with Muriel Bowser as a workhorse in a colorful stable of show horses, which makes her an outstanding DC mayor.
However, I'm not sure how to critique this - as photography or graphic design?
For the photography, I would pretty much go with David's points.
From a Graphic design standpoint, I would suggest a more distinctive typeface for the name, and that you you accent it with a color. My current favorite creative typeface is Chalkduster, and perhaps you might set it in a medium blue. Also, if you had dropped the backgrounds completely to white, the over all design would appear more integrated. Conversely, perhaps things would pop more if you dropped the backgrounds to black on a black page, and reversed the type, using a light blue for the name. |

Sylvia,
Angle is everything, and perhaps if you had looked for a vantage point that cropped the sky out, you may have avoided a very tricky subject.
Also, sometimes it pays to take the "road less traveled". When I was in Page a few years ago, I avoided Antelope Canyon and went to Secret Canyon instead. It requires a five mile jeep trip with the operators, and my group consisted of myself and another photographer. The two of us were free to roam the 2-mile slot canyon for 1-1/2 hours. No crowd there! |

Dickie, I think you were trying to use the chains to frame your subject, but they are a little too prominent to be a seen as a frame, becoming the subject instead. They also block some of the more interesting shacks.
This is an example of trying different angle when shooting. Perhaps if you stood one or two meters to the left of where you took this shot, and angled the camera to the right, the angle would have put more of the shacks inside the frame of the chains. The changed angle would have cut the left side to include the trawler, and lost the boring bit of distant horizon. Of course, if those two meters made you fall off the bridge into the water, don't do it! |

I think you're right on both criticisms, Josh. The model was isolated several years ago, using the techniques available then. I did clone some hair around her head to soften the rough edges of the selection. I've gone back to the originals, and I've had more success with the new object selection features in Photoshop. Fixing the coffee as well, |
