Wonderful photo, Peter. I really like how the sidelighting brought out the feather detail. |

No lens info, but I'm assuming something in the 300mm + range. Great bokeh, and a gutsy little bird. |

The color key effect adds just the right touch of spookiness. The shirt adds just the right touch of a Mexican "Day of the Dead". Or is it just an old-fashioned "Totentanz"? |

Great fun, Art! I love the inclusion of the crowds and pier silhouettes. |

Wow! - yet again, Gerhard. I have some technical questions.
My impression is that focus-stacking works best using a macro rail to move the camera precisely between shots. Did you use one, or does "shift focus mode" somehow do the same thing?
How many shots would you have needed at f 11, rather than 2.8?
In the comment image, I drew red circles around areas that look to me like motion blur, where the drops appear fuzzy and elongated. Could this somehow be related to the shifting in viewpoint caused by the varying focal distances?

What a nice reminder of your vacation! The image lacks detail in the shadows, but your iPhone did a good job with dynamic range by holding detail in the clouds. In my rendition I masked the image so all correction was applied to the bottom half. I then lightened in curves and added a Dynamic Contrast filter to make the laundry colors pop. |

Palli, Good idea and shot, but I wonder if the composition would be better if you got down on the dog's level for your shot. The low angle would have let us see more of the ocean, and would have tied the dog more firmly to the composition.
As I near my 65th birthday, this is advice I find myself needing. I sometimes actually put a little camping pillow in my camera bag so I have something to kneel on! |

Gary, I think your treatment here contributes to the strength of this image. You used roughly the same techniques you used in Melanie's photo, but here the effect is more subtle and blends in better. Good work! |

Melanie,
Nice composition, well seen. Like Gary, I saw a certain flatness in the foreground. But rather than adding a dramatic effect, it seemed wiser to go with a gentle tone/ contrast effect in curves. |

Jack, you've really captured the spaciousness of the West here, with a straight-arrow composition. I'm going with your treatment, since Gary's adds a strong sense of foreboding, far from "carefree". |

Thanks for your comments. The answer to your question is that there is more to IR than we often think, and the increased separation between sky and steam and the definition captured in the steam clouds and the crystalline nature of the hoarfrost makes the IR image more interesting. |
