Thank you for the comments Nigel. I'm glad I wasn't alone in that opinion. Appreciate it. |

Hi Nigel, I like the composition of this landscape. The water being rather calm, provides a faint reflection. The outline of the hill to the right acts a bit like a diagonal line that draws the eye to the red boat near the lower third, which I think is the subject of this photo. I also think that the light haze makes the picture a little flat. A little editing with some dehaze and contrast will give it more punch (which I saw that Tom did in his comment). |

This is a nice composition that employs the rules of odds, with the three vultures positioned in a triangle formation. The portrait format helps frame the attention to just the vultures. I also agree that it is well balanced. |

The color really makes this image. The warm orange light that baths everything in its glow gives it a visceral feeling. The negative space in the top two-thirds of the image actually works with the light along with the darker clouds that acts like a diagonal leading line, drawing the viewer's eyes towards the lower third of the image where the cruise ship is juxtaposed next to the sailboat. I like how all the elements work together here. |

Hi Tom, thanks for the comment. Yes, there are a lot of sailboats moored in that marina and this is a pretty busy harbor too, being right next to the Port of Los Angeles and a cruise ship terminal. There are definitely plenty of marine traffic during the day. I agree that the sky could have used some detail, especially if there was a cloud cover that I could have used to my advantage. I appreciate the comment about the composition and sharpness. Thanks again. |

Hi John, I appreciate the comments. I have posted the color version above too for comparison. I do think the color also works for a vacation landscape photo like this one. Thanks. |

Hi Michele, thank you for the comments. The ferry moving diagonally through the frame as a composition element (without any other boats near it that would have otherwise served as a distraction), was what drew my eye to take this image. I agree that the negative space of the water worked in this respect. I have attached the color version here for comparison. Best regards. |

This is a well composed image that is almost reminiscence of an oil painting. I like the boardwalk on the left of the image that serves as a leading line, drawing the viewer's eye towards the inn in the top third of the image. The green posts on the boardwalk and the greenery complemented the green roof and awnings of the inn. The dominant part of the inn on the left sits nicely on the top left intersection of the rules of the thirds, which helps to balance the image. The sky is also well exposed and the clouds adds a little character to the image. |

This is such a beautiful shot and I really appreciate the amount of work and patience that it took to get it. I have seen videos of photographers gathering around the Valley floor to witness this phenomenal that only happens once a year and hope for the conditions to work in their favor. This photo is an exemplar of that. It's simply stunning. |

I love the composition of this photograph as well. B&W makes this image really striking. The long exposure with the 10-stop ND created really nice silky water. I also like the faint trails in the foreground that serves as leading lines, drawing the viewer's eyes towards the waterfall. I prefer the edited picture over the original, as the latter is a little bright, but that might a result of the long exposure. The edit helps preserve the highlights in the background trees and it also gives the image a moody feel. |
