I put this image into a local competition and it did not do well but many of the other participants felt it was poorly judged. So there you are ... don't let your feeling get hurt. Others opinions are only opinions. Just carry on and enjoy the experiences. |

I like it. I think darking the background and adding a little color saturation to the bird would help show it off and make this a very special image.
I did spent about 5 minutes editing and was able to produce this. Cropped, reduced highlights, saturated colors, darkened background, brought out detail in the bird. |

Nicely captured. Background not a distraction. Flower looks a little sad but still attracting hummers. I think the condition of the flower adds to the interest of the picture. Hummers are my favorite subjects. |

Well you both have a nice action shot. We have the GBH (Great Blue) here. Very common but a large heron. |

I have them near me because I hear them pecking but sadly I have yet to find them. Getting the baby looking out and mom delivering makes this image. I think you could get more impact with it if you brought out the colors more and replaced the white sky with another sky you might have in you inventory of images. But if you don't like to alter you nature shots that much, maybe darkening the sky to create more separation from the woodpecker. I live in Washington state and we never had hummers until about 5-7 years ago. Now we have anna's year round. |

Wow. Great close up of the quetzal. Nice to hear that you also visited the same site. I see that you used an 800 mm lens. The tree was some distance away from the viewing site. I am sure you had to crop this in a lot. Yes it was a bit of a hike up to the site. I have recently had a knee replaced (40 years of ski patrol on Mt Hood). It would be less painful now. Neither of our images show his magnificent tail feathers. I imagine you also have wider shots showing his beautiful tail feathers but they are so wide that showing them makes it difficult to see the bird close up. I attached a pic which shows his tail feathers. I remember this as special shoot. |
