Puffins are wonderful subjects. Especially with their mouth full of lunch. Maybe taking lunch to the chicks. Getting the shot while the bird is in motion and loaded with fish is special. I do concur with Grace's comments. I would have liked to see the wing fully in focus but probably taken from a boat this is difficult. 1/2000 is fast but I guess not fast enough for those conditions. I will have to remember that.

I try to watch my shutter speed to not drive up my ISO. I am shooting with an OM1 camera with a micro 4/3rds sensor. It has many advantages for shooting birds but shooting at a very high ISO isn't one of them. Though Topaz denoise and PS Raw denoise has made high ISO noise not the problem it use to be.
I felt the stem framed the bird nicely so I kept it. But I did remove some distractions.
Thanks for the comments. |

Very difficult bird to shoot. My experience has been they never stop moving long enough to get a good shot. Great that you got them both in full wing expansion. I would like to have seen a little space more at the top of the image so the wing was not pushing off the image. Perhaps a little more saturated yellows in the birds. I am new to this group and don't know how much editing is appreciated. Just to see if I could, I pasted your image into PS and was able to effectively remove the branch in front of the upper bird in about 5 minutes using Generative AI. I don't know if this amount of editing in this group is ok. There is one little back spot in the middle of the image I would have removed. |

It depends on what I would like out of this image. It is a good record of the birds and their nesting environment. If I was was wanting to edit for impact I would have selected the one bird 1/3 up from the bottom on the left side of the image and cropped accordingly. It has a good profile. Then I would have and worked with the colors. I do not think the grey sky cutting the top bird in half is helpful to the image. |

Great action shot. These are the kind of shots that are special. It is sharp for only 1/250 sec. Looks like it was raining but that is ok.Light on the Darters head with a touch of catchlight and on the fish puts my attention right on the action. The poor fish, such an alarming expression on its face. |

I love this bird. I have only had the opportunity to photograph it in the San Diego, CA, USA zoo. Very nice composition showing the environment he lives in. Colors are great and all that should be in focus is. I think the blurred background is perfect and the bright light over his shoulder does not bother me. I would be proud of this image. |
