Hi Isaac - yes, you're right, the bird definitely needs some room in front of him. I like your cropping edit.
Living in North Carolina, we have lots of cardinals - once, during a particularly bad cold snap, I counted no less than a dozen males! They were so pretty against the snow - they looked like a Christmas tree. |

Thank you Maria. You're right. I cropped this a bit too tight to put on my phone because I will be painting it. I forgot to re-crop it for submission. LOL |

We are at sea today and the next few days on our way to French Polynesia. From there we go to Somoa, then Fiji, then New Zealand and Australia. |

Hi Isaac - another stunner! You really captured every single water drop, and I like the expression on the bear's face - irritated by the water and relief at shaking it off. Three cubs nearby? Oh, nice! |

Hi Richard - lucky you! We live in NC and are constantly checking eBird for sightings somewhere we could drive to in a day or so - no such luck - yet.
I like how you kept the moody overcast-ness in the image, you can definitely tell it was cold out by doing this. I also tried to recrop the image for a tighter crop, but couldn't come up with anything better - showing that the bird is on the large log does the trick. |

Hi Maria - great job considering what you had to deal with in making this shot. Very sharp, and I like how you got the mouse in the middle of scratching its ear. Cute. I'm not sure how you could improve on the crop - I think you did just fine. |

Hi Adrian - I like your crop - leaving plenty of room in front of the bird to move into. I also like how you managed to capture that very moment when its wing seems to just touch the water - nice! I tried putting your photo into iNaturalist to help ID the species, but it didn't know either - so you're not alone.
BTW - which cruise line are you going with to circumnavigate South America? We'd gone on one before, but had to stop before we got halfway through because of a family emergency back home. |

Aloha and thank you Richard! I first saw this bird 13 years ago when we visited Hawaii for the first time. I managed to snap a photo of it, but it wasn't very good. I was so happy this time to have these two come so close to us. |
