82 Jan 26 Reply Thanks for sharing more info on your wonderful capture. I was wondering if you were using focus tracking with the focus specifically on the eye. Maybe that's what the A7iii does with the selection checked. If so, that's pretty cool as focus tracking is much more difficult with the Nikon D850.
Best of luck in the competition. Let us know how you do!

82 Jan 26 Comment Hi Harrison. I had the same initial response to your image as the others. I am not well versed in high key, so I did a little research. Since the idea is to maximize the highlights without blowing them out, while minimizing the shadows, I have a new appreciation for your challenges and the way you have handled them. I looked up some post-processing recommendations and there are many. I tried to do as one suggested (decreasing the clarity and adding dehaze). I ended up with a mushy mess.
Your image is quite beautiful. Please let us know how you do in competition and thank you for the learning opportunity.

82 Jan 26 Reply Laurie, thank you for your kind, empathetic comments. With your gorgeous night sky captures, you are bound to be "in harm's way" from time to time. I had been to the location of my accident many times before and of course I was using a flashlight. I just wasn't tuned in enough to see the plant root that caught my foot.
Please do be careful. I want to see more of your night photography!

82 Jan 26 Comment I would have been very excited to capture this wonderful sunrise! The starburst is fabulous and really steals the show. I am a bit distracted from the rest of the scene by the choppy water. Decreasing the clarity and texture and masking it off on the water calms it for me. Jan 9th
82 Jan 26 Comment Kathleen, The angle, the color, the in-flight action freeze, and the sharpness are very impressive and the lighting is exquisite. The dark areas in the background are a bit distracting and I would be tempted to replace the color or clone them out to make a more uniform background.
Could you elaborate on the setting you have turned on to facilitate the sharpness of the eye? It certainly worked well!
