Laurie, here is another option that retains selective color. I used masking to allow the color on the cows, but left the distracting background in black and white. I also applied an oil painting filter to get rid of the noise and decreased the yellow color cast on the cows with "replace color" in PS. I let the cows' ears pop outside of the edging to bring more attention to them. Thanks for letting me have fun with your photo! |

Laurie, I love the whimsy in this shot. To focus more attention on that licking action, I applied a black and white filter with a crop and a cyanotype edge. The filter also removed a lot of the noise. Do you like this version? |

Kathleen, I love this capture and to me, it looks like a beautiful portrait waiting to be enhanced. Cormorants are one of my favorite birds to capture, but since we don't have many where I live, I had a lot of fun playing with this image. Primarily I used Details settings in Topaz to bring out the small details and de-emphasize the large details. I blurred the image and masked the blur so it only affected the outside edges. By doing this, the sharpened parts (the eyes) stand out. I changed the color temperature because I think of those fabulous emerald eyes cormorants have; but maybe this one didn't? I also saturated the color to give more depth and interest to the different areas of the bird.
This is a wonderful capture. |

This is a most beautiful building. I'm not sure how well it would have worked if you had taken multiple images with your wide angle lens and stitched them in PS but it would give you more of the surrounding landscape to work with, so maybe something to consider for next time
I find wide angle lenses are difficult to work with and I have problems capturing the scene I see with them because of the distortion introduced. I tried removing the distortion in your image by increasing the canvas size and using Adobe Camera Raw to manually decrease the amount of distortion (straighten the sides of the building). This left a small portion of the edges open, but they could be filled in with generative fill.
Decreasing the lens distortion gives the building more of a 3D effect, but perhaps this isn't what it looked like at all.
In your opinion, does this improve the image? |

Thanks so much Laurie! If it looks like a painting to you, I accomplished my goal. It has taken me many years to learn how to use these tools and it will be many more before I am proficient with them. |
