Group Round C/R Comment Date Image
99 Dec 25 Comment This street portrait documents a lovely memory of the market day you spent at the Munsterplatz in Germany. It demonstrates strong observation skills and an authentic moment. The man's concentrated expression and natural stance is genuinely interesting to everyone who looks at your image, while his instrument's diagonal line adds dynamic energy to the composition. If you have more shots of him, would it be possible to include the top of the instrument? By doing that, you would likely increase the effect of the diagonal and perhaps improve on the already lovely balance. Dec 11th
99 Dec 25 Comment Simply beautiful architectural photography - all to wish for is there, like symmetry, edge-to-edge sharpness (at 1/8 second handheld!), perspective but also detail, great tonal values, leading lines, etc. The two distant figures provide scale and narrative interest without dominating or taking over interest. Instead, the lines and foot imprints on the floor add to the human element and atmosphere, and I agree with Barbara that it strengthens the composition. Dec 11th
99 Dec 25 Comment This is an unusual, interesting and intimate street portrait. The tonal values are great, textures and hair details are equally great, and it is technically more or less perfect. I like your image a lot. The sense of anonymity that you create by not showing either of the two persons' faces. And this opens up for us viewers to make our own interpretation and to raise questions. I am thinking about what clues I get from the picture, and to me, it boils down to symbolism and gestures. The act of sharing, nurturing, the trust between humans. The hands, the bottle, the bowed heads create an almost spiritual quality. I do not need to see their faces - in fact, I think the image is much more powerful without them. The gesture speaks. Very well done. Dec 11th
99 Dec 25 Comment I knew absolutely nothing about cricket before I saw your picture, but thanks to you I now have a little, little idea of certain concepts, like "bowled out", "batsman", "flying bails" - all I learned from looking at YouTube. With that in mind, I have a deep admiration for your outstanding capture of "The Decisive Moment". Handheld camera with a long telephoto lens that was new to you - I am truly impressed. Being able to capture perfectly when two bails are flying, the batsman executing his shot, the ball flying in the air, and the other player in deep concentration is impressive. I think that the conversion to Black and White handled the bright conditions very well. You have a great composition with good separation both between the two players as well as between the players and the background. Face realities - you are a born sports photographer! Very well done. 99 Dec 25 Comment Fantastic image - well done. The dramatic sky is just perfect as a contrast to the glowing silos, while the texture in both the corrugated metal and the striped ventilation bands is truly beautiful. I love it. When I first saw your image, I wondered a little bit about the barn roofs in the lower part of the image. They created interest and tension and for that reason my eyes looked even more closely at your image. I feel that those roofs contribute both to the narrative as they ground the silos in a farm context, and to the visual interest as their graphic forms break with the rhythm and tones of the three silo towers.
