99 Sep 25 Comment This is such a touching picture of a beautiful family moment at the Museum of Flight. The man's pointing gesture while the children are looking intensively at the massive space shuttle, tells a story of how knowledge and inspiration are transferred from adult to child. It is also a sweet story of family connection. Sep 8th
99 Sep 25 Comment Interesting and unusual portrait. My first impression is the person's intensive and direct gaze that creates a strong emotional connection. The lighting and shadows sculpture his face beautifully. His other details, such as the bearded hair, white-painted eyebrows and eyelashes, varied jewelry, etc., suggest a story of identity and cultural pride.
The focus is sharp and your use of Black and White brings forward the rich tonal range, textures and forms. As great portrait as it already is, I wonder if the man will pop even more if you blur the background somewhat? A question that perhaps just shows my ignorance: is it a band aid on the man's nose, and if it is, would it make sense to eliminate it?

99 Sep 25 Comment To me, your picture suggests a dedication to historical preservation, and for friendships based on a shared passion for history. Thus, I find your image to honor both history and those who preserve it. Very nicely done. The natural framing by the tree branches and the more faded trees in the background add depth, and the tonal range is excellent. I like also that you have managed to get separation between the people, the tree branches and the camp elements - this is not an easy task especially when there are several people that seem not to be posing but rather be where they are in a natural way. 99 Sep 25 Comment Peter, this is a great storytelling image that reflects also your talent for social observation. I like it very much. I feel that you are using juxtapositions and commonalities to tell a story of modern life in urban environments. The businessman in his suit is somewhat isolated or in deep thoughts as he is reading his book, while the working-class man in his helmet is fixating us with his straight gaze. Although the men are from different social classes, they share the same transportation mode - motorbikes. While the businessman is lonely on his bike, the working man has a passenger.
The composition is great - one is drawn into the picture by strong diagonal lines from the motorbikes and the street line. Black and White enhances the contrasts between the men and gives a wonderful documentary/street feel.

99 Sep 25 Comment Barbara, your photo is so beautiful - the lighting, the way you have captured transparency and weight of the wine glass, the simplicity of the composition, the minimalistic approach, elegance and clean lines/shapes, etc.. Technically it is perfect - and I particularly enjoy the light and droplets that are formed by the pattern in the bottom of the cup of the wineglass. Conversion to Black and White is wonderful as it enhances drama and contrasts.
I noticed that your July image was also a beautiful photo of a glass, so I am curious to know what drew you to these subjects or what you were hoping to achieve. To me, your photos have meditative qualities. Is that what you were you hoping viewers would feel? Are they part of still life studies of shape and form? Or a demonstration of lighting skills? In any case, I admire how you have created something so visually striking through pure technique and aesthetic beauty. I wish I could do it too.
